Rector: Gender Studies Need to be Strengthened
Rectorate, UIN News Online – Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis asked the academic community of UIN Jakarta to strengthen gender studies. This is needed as a form of support for the creation of gender justice.
This was said by Amany during her book discussion titled “Perempuan dan Islam di Indonesia” which was launched today, Tuesday (07/06/2022). The book launch, which was initiated by the UIN Jakarta Library Center and the UIN Jakarta Center for Gender and Children Studies (PSGA), was held as a series of celebrations for the 65th anniversary of ADIA/IAIN/UIN Jakarta.
Rector Amany said that gender studies need to be continuously strengthened considering that there are still many women who are still left behind in social, economic, educational, political, and health aspects. This is especially true for women who live in coastal, rural, and other economically disadvantaged areas.
“Therefore, gender studies need to be encouraged. Indeed, at UIN Jakarta, for example, almost 70 percent of women managed to occupy various important lines. But outside UIN Jakarta, on the coast, in rural areas, it's the opposite,” she said.
Amany Lubis further explained that this book has various themes. The contents are a collection of papers and presentations submitted in various forums.
“The book are divided into two major chapters. The first chapter contains about women in Islam, ideals, and facts while the second chapter contains about Islam and gender equality,” said Rector.
