Rector Expects Arabic to be Second Language in the Campus

Auditorium, UIN NEWS Online – Rector of UIN Jakarta Prof Dr Dede Rosyada expects the usage of Arabic as second language after Bahasa in UIN Jakarta internal environment. This is aimed so that the language developed more in the civitas academica.

“Along this year majority of the lecturers uses Bahasa as the main language in the class, in the future lecturers are expected to use Arabic as language of instruction in their class,” said the rector when he officiates the National Seminar themed “The Impact of Arabic in Indonesian Culture” in Auditorium Prof Dr Harun Nasution, Monday (9/26).

The seminar on the event on Arabic week (Al-’Arabiyah lil Funuun) was organized by Association of Arabic Education Department (HMJ-PBA) Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teachers Training (FITK). Also present the Dean of FITK Prof Dr Ahmad Thib Raya and Head of Arabic Education Department Drs Syamsul Arifin, MPd.

Rector said that the usage of Arabic intra-civitas academica needs encouragement so that they have good Arabic skills beside English. The thing is, Arabic is not only developed academically, but also grow into a wide market.

So, the development of Arabic should be a serious focus, like creating Arabic environment.

“When I was receiving the Grand Sheikh of Al-Azhar University, Egypt, Prof Dr Sheikh Ahmad Muhammad Ahmad Ath-Thayyeb, I welcomed him using Arabic. He seems impressed with the reception and he did not expect the usage of Arabic is applied well,” he explained.

Meanwhile, the Dean of FITK Prof Dr Ahmad Thib Raya in his welcoming remarks thinks that the Arabic week event in FITK is highly positive. He also hoped that the usage of the language can be applied not only in the class but also in campus environment, especially FITK.

“If in the fourth floor of FITK building (the place of Department of Arabic Education, Ed) can create Arabic environment, I think it will be better. But Arabic must be develop everywhere because the language are the language of Al-Qur’an, international, and the afterlife,” he said.

In the seminar, the speakers are Dr Ali Hasan Al-Bahar (Lecturers of Arabic Language and Literature Program in Faculty of Adab and Humanities UIN Jakarta, KH Ahmad Baso (Pesantren Cultural Observer of Saung Pamulang Community), and Sabrang Mauo Damar Panuluh (Cultural Observer from Yogyakarta). The keynote speech was delivered by Budiman, Second Assistant of South Tangerang City Government, Banten. (ns/ika p/rany)
