Rector Congratulates Prof. Jamhari on Prestigious Japanese Honor
Ciputat, UIN Online News — The Government of Japan officially announced the recipients of its Spring 2026 Decorations on Wednesday (29/4/2026). Among the honorees is Prof. Dr. Jamhari Makruf, Rector of the Indonesian International Islamic University (UIII), who received The Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon in recognition of his outstanding contributions to strengthening academic exchange and fostering mutual understanding between Japan and Indonesia.
The announcement was warmly welcomed by the academic community of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. Rector Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., expressed his appreciation for the achievement.
"On behalf of the leadership and the entire UIN Jakarta community, we are deeply proud of and congratulate Professor Jamhari on this remarkable achievement. This honor is not only a personal distinction but also a testament to the ability of scholars from our university to make meaningful contributions that are recognized on the global stage," he said in a statement to UIN Online News.
The prestigious recognition reflects Prof. Jamhari's long-standing contributions to academia, particularly during his years at UIN Jakarta. Before assuming his current role as Rector of UIII, he served as a lecturer at the Faculty of Da'wah and Communication Sciences (FDIKOM) and the Graduate School of UIN Jakarta. He also held the position of Vice Rector for Cooperation from 2011 to 2014, playing a significant role in expanding the university's institutional partnerships.
Beyond his contributions to UIN Jakarta, Prof. Jamhari has consistently strengthened academic and cultural relations between Indonesia and Japan. As a prominent Muslim scholar, he has frequently provided valuable insights and analyses on Indonesian affairs that have informed Japanese foreign policy discussions. He also pioneered and helped sustain the "Visit Program for Leaders of Islamic Boarding Schools (Pesantren) to Japan," an initiative that has been running since 2004.
The conferment of this decoration highlights the growing international recognition of Indonesian Muslim scholars and underscores the importance of educational and cultural diplomacy in strengthening ties between Indonesia and Japan. It also serves as an inspiration for future generations of Indonesian academics to contribute meaningfully to the global community.
