Ramadan Gathering at the Student Center, UIN Jakarta Rector Promotes Environmental Sustainability

Student Center, UIN Online News - UIN Jakarta hosted a communal iftar gathering for academic staff and students at the Al-Jami'ah Mosque on Monday (17/3/2025). This event, which brought the theme "Ramadan Spirituality and Green Campus Commitment at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta," seeks to enhance connections within the academic community and promote awareness of environmental sustainability, particularly during the holy month of Ramadan. 

"The mosque in the Student Center auditorium often conducts lessons on Hadith, the Quranic interpretation, especially during the golden month. This activity is part of our initiative to enhance students' intellectual capabilities in the domain of religion," Prof. Dr. Hamka Hasan, M.A., Chairman of the Mosque Security Council (DKM) of Al-Jami’ah Mosque and Member of the BPKH Supervisory Board, conveyed.

This event partners with the Hajj Financial Supervisory Agency (BPKH), which supports different religious and social initiatives within the UIN Jakarta community. On this occasion, BPKH also extended social support via gifts to the DKM Al-Jami’ah Mosque and also distributed a number of Qurans to mosques in the vicinity of UIN Jakarta.

"It is essential for you, esteemed ladies and gentlemen, and fellow students to understand that BPKH is responsible for administering two funds: the Hajj Fund and the Eternal Fund for the Ummah (DAU). As you should know, this event, which is one of the community welfare initiatives, is derived from the DAU," Miftahuddin addressed. 

Moreover, the Deputy for Community Welfare of BPKH explained that the administration of hajj monies is now executed with greater transparency via the BPKH application, facilitating public oversight of the allocation and use of these funds. 

Eventually, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., the Rector of UIN Jakarta, emphasized the significance of spiritual values and the potential for personal development of Muslims during Ramadan.

"Ramadan is a significant period bestowed by Allah for Muslims to retreat from the distractions of worldly life. According to Al-Baqarah 2:183, Ramadan is a special period for Muslims to further their self-improvement and the cultivation of piety," the rector of UIN Jakarta said.

Asep Saipudin Jahar underscored that within the academic milieu, each person at UIN Jakarta plays a crucial role in fostering a more promising future. In In addition to the scientific domains, contributions can also be seen in the social and religious spheres. 

"Indeed, we are very lucky to live in an atmosphere that fosters intellectual and spiritual growth. As academicians, we bear a significant responsibility to not only achieve excellence in academia but also to effectuate a positive influence on society and the environment," Prof. Asep concluded.

In his concluding remarks, Prof. Asep urged the audience to use this month of Ramadan for self-improvement. During Ramadan, it is essential for Muslims to become the agents of change who positively impact our environment, ensuring that our presence fosters peace, tranquility, and security.
