PSGA Wants All Activities to Be More Gender Responsive

Diorama Room, UIN NEWS Online - Center for Gender and Child Studies (PSGA) UIN Jakarta wants activities at UIN Jakarta to be more gender responsive. It is intended that the gender mainstreaming program can be achieved optimally.

This was stated by PSGA Chairman Rahmi Purnomowati after the Socialization and Planning of Gender Responsive Budgeting and Training (PPRG) in the Diorama Room, Friday (9/14/2018). The event was attended by a number of staff representatives from 12 faculties at UIN Jakarta. Also present were the Head of Planning and Finance Bureau Subarja and the Planning Section Head Kuswara. The socialization was also filled by discussion with Ervania Zuhriah from UIN Malang as the speaker.

According to Rahmi, socialization and training in the preparation of gender responsive planning and budgeting is a central government program. It is intended that the activities in each unit and government institution such as the UIN Jakarta campus are truly gender responsive.

In other words, she explained, activities that have been planned and budgeted must have justice for both men and women, so they can get opportunity altogether. Between men and women have the same access. However, it does not have to be 50 percent of men and 50 percent of women because what matters is their representation and alignment.

"We depart from the field that men and women have been given the same opportunity. However, in the implementation, there are obstacles so that both men and women are not the same, " she said.

Ervania Zuhriah, Trainer Planning and Gender Responsive Budgeting from UIN Malang revealed, this program was initiated in 2015 in the process of gender responsive planning and budgeting in universities, especially in the Ministry of Religion. The activity begins with an understanding of gender concepts to all sub-divisions of planning in each faculty and unit at UIN Jakarta.

From the concept and understanding of the participants on gender, she explained, it only entered into planning. That said, based on Ervania's research, it was found that almost all state Islamic religious colleges (PTKIN) were visited without an analysis. Therefore, they (leaders at PTKIN, Red) when planning are very gender neutral.

"Without an analysis and involvement in the process of access, participation, control, and benefits for men and women, the program of gender responsive activities is not possible," she said. (usa-rs)
