PSGA UIN Jakarta will organize international seminar on women’s role in Society 5.0 era
Rectorate, UIN News Online – To commemorate Mother's Day which falls on December 22, 2021, Center for the Study of Gender and Child (PSGA) of UIN Jakarta is scheduled to organize international seminar titled “Peran Perempuan di Era Society 5.0”. The seminar will be held in a blended manner (offline and online) by presenting a number of resource persons from Indonesian government officials and academics.
To discuss the role of women in the "Society 5.0" era, the committee invited four speakers, namely I Gusti Ayu Bintang Darmawati (Indonesian Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection), Lena Mariana Mukti (Indonesian Ambassador to Kuwait), Reini Wairahadikusumah (Rector of the Bandung Institute of Technology), and Ida Fauziyah (Indonesian Minister of Manpower).
The Head of PSGA UIN Jakarta Ulfah Fajarini to UIN News Online on Wednesday (12/08/2021) said that the seminar aims to increase women’s role in building civilization and cooperation between countries as well as in various other fields, such as education, economy, family, and world peace in the era of Society 5.0.
Ulfah also said that the world has now entered the Society 5.0 era. Therefore, Indonesian women must be ready to answer the challenges of the times they face.
“Therefore, Mother's Day is the right moment to reflect and strengthen hopes for Indonesian women to move forward and show their abilities and identity as productive, innovative, creative, and inclusive ‘mothers of the nation’,” she said.
Ulfah also emphasized that Society 5.0 was created as a solution to Industrial Revolution 4.0 which was feared to degrade humanity and human character. Therefore, in the era of Society 5.0, character values must be developed, empathy and tolerance must be fostered along with the development of competence and critical, innovative, and creative thinking.
“Society 5.0 aims to integrate virtual space and physical space into one, so that everything becomes easy with the support of artificial intelligence,” she explained.
Artificial intelligence, Ulfah added, will also transform into big data collected via the internet in all aspects of life. Furthermore, it will also become a new wisdom that will be dedicated to improving human abilities to open up opportunities for various act of humanity.
This transformation will help humans to live a more meaningful life where a touch of humanism in the concept of Society 5.0 will become the basic capital.
Technological advances in the Society 5.0 era, according to Ulfah, have created various opportunities by increasing women's access to education, careers, and self-actualization. But on the other hand, it will also bring up various challenges, including an increasingly competitive world of work, changing parenting styles, and how to divide and balance the roles of women.
Therefore, women must be able to seize opportunities and overcome these challenges, one solution is to reaffirm the role of the family by improving relations between family members, improving family functions, developing norms and cultural standards, forming media and information literate families, and implementing democratic communication patterns.
This international seminar will be opened by the Rector of UIN Jakarta, Amany Lubis. In addition with international seminar, this activity will also be filled with the launch of two books and a photo exhibition by Amany Lubis, Doctor Honoris Causa (HC) awarding ceremony to Indonesian Muslim feminist activist Lies Marcoes.
