PSGA UIN Jakarta Together with the Ministry of PPPA Socialize Prevention of Sexual Violence in Higher Education

Harun Nasution Auditorium, UIN News Online - Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA), Arifah Fauzi, has socialized Prevention of Sexual Violence in Higher Education at Mother's Day Seminar at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Tuesday (17/12/2024).

For information, in order to welcome Mother's Day, the Center for Gender and Child Studies (PSGA) together with the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (Kemenpppa) held a Mother's Day Seminar with the theme “Multi Role of Women in the Frame of Mother's Day”, as well as declaring UIN Jakarta as a Women and Child Friendly Campus.

The Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (PPPA), Arifah Fauzi, appreciate the event that discussed efforts to fight sexual violence in universities. According to her, this activity not only broadens insights related to the issue of sexual violence, but also encourages real action to create a safe educational environment.

“I really appreciate this activity because it has provided a broader understanding about sexual violence to students and the academic community. Thus, they can work together to protect women and children from violence that occurs in higher education,” said Minister Arifah Fauzi.

In her presentation, the PPPA Minister explained that sexual violence can occur at all levels of education, with 27 percent of them occurring in universities. She emphasized that educational institutions should be a safe space for all students, without the threat of sexual violence.

“Sexual violence in higher education often becomes more complicated due to power relations, for example between lecturers and students,” she added.

Not only limited to universities, the Ministry of PPPA also shows national commitment in overcoming violence against women and children through various programs, one of which is the Ruang Bersama Indonesia (RBI) Program. This program is a continuation of the Women-Friendly and Child-Caring Village (DRPPA), which educates people at the village level by involving various parties, including community institutions, government, and local communities. The main objective is to reduce the problem of violence against women and children inclusively.

Furthermore, the Minister of PPPA explained that sexual violence against children is often caused by a lack of good parenting from parents and the negative impact of excessive use of gadgets.

“Cases of child sexual abuse often occur among teenagers. Puberty makes them curious and want to try various things. Without good supervision and parenting, this can be a serious threat,” she explained.

In conclusion, the PPPA Minister invited the public to report acts of sexual violence experienced or witnessed through the Sahabat Perempuan hotline at 129, or via WhatsApp at 08111129129.

“This is a concrete action of the government's presence in protecting women, children, and the community,” the Minister concluded.
