PSGA UIN Jakarta holds webinar

Ciputat,UIN News online – The burden on women in the Covid 19 pandemic is increased. In addition to losing their jobs as a source of income or continuing to work at home, they also have to share energy to do routine household tasks and replace the role of teachers for children following a distance learning policy.

This was the conclusion of a webinar held by the Center for Gender and Child Studies or PSGA UIN Jakarta, Thursday (07/23/2020). Officiated by the Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis, this webinar invited the Indonesian Minister of Manpower (Menaker) Ida Fauziyah as a resource person and attended by academics-professionals from various institutions.

In her presentation, Ida Fauziyah revealed that the impact of the Corona virus not only affected the health sector, but also affected other sectors, especially the education and economic sectors. The impact on the economic sector, she explained, had a significant effect on the national workforce absorption.

“Economic turbulence has an impact on the employment sector. There are around 1 million workers affected, and of that number, there are 571 thousand women workers affected by the pandemic,” said Ida.

Such conditions, she continued, have contributed to the increasing responsibilities of women in their respective household. They are required to allocate more time and energy in doing housework while replacing the teacher's task in teaching their children.

Responding to this condition, she continued, women were encouraged to further optimize digital-based part-time work such as e-commerce. That way, women can have a source of income with flexible working time.

“The government, through the Ministry of Manpower, she continued, also offers various empowerment programs that can be followed by women. These programs are provided in the form of competency-based training, entrepreneurship, and online training through the Employment Card scheme on the Sisnaker platform,” said the Minister.

Meanwhile, the Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany lubis reminded the important role of women as social responsibility agents in minimizing the impact of pandemic risks on society. In this case, women can encourage mutual assistance to affected families.

“I am sure, many families in Indonesia live with savings. As a result of a pandemic, there is no more income. The economic level is declining, this is where women can work together hand in hand to minimize the risks,” said Rector (usa/zm)
