PSGA UIN Jakarta and Yayasan Sayap Ibu Celebrate National Children's Day with Children with Disabilities

Menjangan, UIN News Online - Center for Gender and Children Study (PSGA) UIN Jakarta commemorated National Children's Day (HAN) with a discussion themed "Inclusive Approach in Parenting for the Development of Children with Disabilities." This event was held in collaboration with Yayasan Sayap Ibu and the Disability Service Unit (UPD), both of which are branches in South Tangerang, on Tuesday, July 23, 2024.

The event was attended by the Head of PSGA, Dr. Hj. Wiwi Siti Sajaroh, M.Ag., Founder of the Indonesian Special Family Forum, Nia Arianty Nurningsih, and the Board of Yayasan Sayap Ibu, Banten Province, Renowati Hardjosubroto.

In the discussion forum, Renowati emphasized that the right to life for these children must be provided for their growth and development, physiotherapy, recreation, and participation. She stated that families, especially mothers, must play a role in their children's physical, psychological, and social development. "The philosophy of Sayap Ibu is like a mother hen always protecting her chicks. Even animals serve their young, let alone a mother," explained Renowati on Tuesday, July 23.

In line with Renowati, Nia also explained the crucial role of parents towards their children. These roles include acceptance and emotional support, collaboration with professionals, and providing a supportive environment. "Focus on hygiene and behavior in educating them. Guide them and give instructions consistently," said Nia on Tuesday, July 23.

Besides the discussion activities, PSGA UIN Jakarta also facilitated the children to participate in various competitive activities. These competitions included buttoning a shirt, ball throwing, relay races, and putting the ball in the basket.

Through these games, the cheerful faces of the disabled children were evident. Although their guardians were focused on the discussion, the disabled children remained safe under the supervision of PSGA members and the Board of Yayasan Sayap Ibu South Tangerang.

In addition to discussions and education, the outcome of this event was the formalization of the collaboration between PSGA UIN Jakarta and Yayasan Sayap Ibu, along with the Disability Service Unit (UPD) in South Tangerang. This collaboration aims to involve children and individuals with disability in future activities.  (Febria Adha Larasati/Fauziah M./Raihan Lail Ramadhan)
