PSGA Opens Batch 5 of Gender and Children Class

RSU,  UIN NEWS Online-   The Center for Gender and Child Studies UIN Jakarta held a gender class and children class batch 5 on Tuesday (8/7/2018) in the RSU, rectorate building 2nd floor of UIN Jakarta.

The activity themed “Tradisi Khatam Alquran Berbasis Kearifan Lokal dalam Rangka Penguatan Karakter” was opened by PSGA UIN Jakarta Chair Rahmi Purnomowati SP MSi with resource person Dr. Wirdanengsih.

Rahmi said, this gender class learning is expected to be a learning model in the local area and other regions in Indonesia.

"The Khatam Alquran tradition in the community is a learning model that is integrated with local wisdom with an understanding of the culture and state of the people in a place," Rahmi said in front of dozens of participants who were lecturers of UIN Jakarta.

Meanwhile, Wirdanengsih in her presentation conveyed about the Khatam Alquran method for early age children up to grade 6. According to her, a class with a number of students reaching 100 people with two teachers was made effective into two classes.

"Each class is trained starting with basic reading by forming two layers of repetition. The first layer reads the Koran together, the second layer re-reads, and so on, " she said.

When khatam, she continued, there is a marching tradition and reading on stage to bring up the character of habitual listening in listening to the Koran recitation.

"In Islamic teachings, there is a custom to perform special ceremonies for children who are approaching adulthood, namely the ceremony "Khatam Alquran", which is a ceremony to welcome the end of a child learning ways to read the Koran," she added.

Khatam Alquran which is also commonly called Tamat Alquran, is a ceremony that is held to mark the completion of a children in learning the Koran recitation. In this ceremony the participants consisted of children who had completed Juz Amma. This ceremony takes place with a series of traditional events.

"This is an expression of gratitude and a sense of pride and happiness, because children have succeeded in completing the reading lesson of Juz Amma, then told their parents, then forwarded to the community through a ceremony," he said.

With the holding of this ceremony, he continued, it is hoped that the children can change their attitudes and characteristics from childhood to adulthood, doing good and practicing the knowledge they have, and being a role model in their community. (usa-rs)
