Providing Financial Assistance to Local Micro and Small Businesses
Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta supports local entrepreneurs not only through education and mentoring, but also through direct financial assistance designed to help micro and small businesses start, recover, and remain economically sustainable.
Through the University's Social Trust Fund, financial support is integrated with community empowerment, entrepreneurship training, mentoring, and local economic development.
Financial Assistance for Women-Led Microenterprises
One example of this commitment can be seen in the University's support for women entrepreneurs in Sarongge Village, Cianjur, West Java.
Following the earthquake that affected the region and damaged homes, public facilities, and equipment used by local microenterprises, the Social Trust Fund of Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta distributed IDR 10 million in financial assistance to 10 women operating local Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs).
The assistance was intended to provide business capital that would enable the entrepreneurs to restart and continue production following the disruption caused by the disaster.
The initiative demonstrates the University's commitment to supporting community members whose livelihoods depend on small-scale economic activities.
Linking Financial Support with Business Mentoring
The financial assistance was not implemented as an isolated intervention.
The women entrepreneurs receiving support had previously participated in entrepreneurship development programs facilitated by the Social Trust Fund, including digital-marketing training and economic-empowerment activities.
This combination of financial support and capacity building is important because sustainable business development requires more than access to capital.
Entrepreneurs also require knowledge about marketing, business management, digital platforms, product development, licensing, and access to markets.
By integrating these components, Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta helps local businesses strengthen their capacity to recover and develop more sustainable business models.
Supporting Rural Social Entrepreneurship
The University also supports entrepreneurship through the Center for Rural Community Development and Social Entrepreneurship (CERCONDESO), developed by the Social Trust Fund in Cidokom Village, Bogor.
The center uses productive waqf assets as a platform for rural community empowerment and social entrepreneurship.
Activities conducted through the center include financial-literacy education, business-mindset development, digital marketing, MSME mentoring, and the development of facilities for community economic activities.
These initiatives create an ecosystem in which local entrepreneurs can access not only financial resources but also knowledge, networks, training, and institutional support.
Strengthening Sustainable Local Economies
Through direct financial assistance, entrepreneurship mentoring, community facilities, and partnerships, Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University Jakarta contributes to strengthening the economic resilience of local communities.
The University's approach recognizes that access to capital can be an important barrier for small businesses, particularly following economic crises or natural disasters.
By providing financial support alongside education and mentoring, the University helps local entrepreneurs maintain their livelihoods, rebuild productive activities, and work toward financially and socially sustainable businesses.
