Prominent Islamic Education figure Abdul Malik Fadjar passed away
Jakarta, UIN News Online –Indonesian nation lost its best figure. Islamic and Muhammadiyah education figure Prof. Dr. (HC) Abdul Malik Fadjar passed on Monday (09/07/2020) at 19.00 at Mayapada Hospital, South Jakarta.
During his lifetime, Abdul Malik Fadjar served as Minister of Religion in the era of the 3rd President of the Republic of Indonesia BJ Habibie (1998-1999) and Minister of National Education in the era of President Megawati Soekarnoputri (2001-2004). Then, he served as the ad-interim Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare (Menko Kesra) replacing Jusuf Kalla who at that time was running for vice president in the 2004 elections. Then during President Joko Widodo, he was elected as a member of the Presidential Advisory Council for the 2015–2019 terms. In addition, he is also involved in the world of education.
Apart from being listed as a teacher and lecturer at the Muhammadiyah, Malik Fadjar is also known as a prominent Muslim scholar.
For UIN Jakarta, the man who was born in Yogyakarta, February 22, 1939, is also familiar. In 2001, Malik Fadjar obtained the honorary title of Doctor Honouris Causa (HC) in Islamic education from the Tarbiyah Faculty of IAIN (now UIN, Ed) Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta in 2001.
When he became the Coordinating Minister for People's Welfare, Malik Fadjar had inaugurated the Dirasat Islamiyah Faculty building of UIN Jakarta. In fact, he was also recorded as a lecturer and guest examiner at the UIN Jakarta Postgraduate School (SPs) when Azyumardi Azra was the director of SPs. (usa/ns)
