Professor Nasir Encourages UIN Jakarta to Continuously Strengthen Global Reputation

Harun Nasution Auditorium, UIN Online News - UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta needs to continuously strengthen its global reputation through academic development and research. The synergy of all elements in developing the university is another requirement that the university must fulfill.

This was conveyed by Prof. H. Muhammad Nasir Ak. M.Si. Ph.D., when delivering a lecture on Halalbihalal for the Leaders and Academic Community of UIN Jakarta at the Harun Nasution Auditorium Building, Tuesday (4/23/2024). The theme of the Halalbihalal was "Weaving Brotherhood, Achieving Progress: Together Achieving UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta's Global Reputation," attended by UIN Jakarta leaders and academic community.

According to him, the UIN Jakarta family needs to work seriously in realizing a globally reputable university. "Don't just talk about achieving global reputation without taking action," said the Commissioner of Bank Syariah Indonesia who was once the Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education for the period of 2014-2019.

This former Rector of Diponegoro University emphasized the seriousness of UIN Jakarta's aspirations in achieving global reputation. Therefore, he explained, Halalbihalal is a good momentum in fostering togetherness as the main capital in realizing a globally reputable university.

"We here represent a good start in fostering togetherness, in thoughts and directions that are the same. Even though we have different opinions," added the Professor in the field of Behavioral Accounting and Management Accounting.

Not only that, Professor Nasir also provided profound thoughts to improve the quality of the university and increase productivity. According to him, the aspiration to achieve global reputation is similar to the components of worship. He described worship with three components: sharia, tariqa, and haqiqah.

In efforts to boost this global reputation, Prof. Nasir explained the importance of the essence of sharia in achieving goals. According to him, having a clear vision and mission direction, as well as a solid corporate culture, are important in achieving global reputation. He also emphasized the need for real actions rather than just talk.

In the essence of tariqa to achieve worship goals, methods or strategies are needed to implement them. Therefore, to achieve this global reputation, designs or steps are needed to realize it.

"If you want to achieve worship goals, you must know its sharia. You must know how to design," he said.

Furthermore, Professor Nasir also discussed the revolutionary changes he made as the key to Indonesia's success in gaining world recognition in the field of scientific publications. These changes include rules that every professor must publish scientific papers.

This policy has been a significant leap in Indonesia's history from never achieving global publication rankings to being awarded as the country with the highest publication growth in the world.

"Alhamdulillah, after the policy was implemented, Indonesia received an award as The Highest Increasing Publication in The World. The score reached 1600 percent," he said.

In the essence of haqiqah, Prof. Nasir explained that the key to success in achieving these goals is the focus of all university elements towards global competition. This is an effort to improve national competitiveness.

"The key to success is if all elements in the study program focus on global competition, God willing, it can be done," he explained.

One of the important steps taken by Prof. Nasir is to allocate a minimum of 10 percent budget for world-class programs, including increasing student and lecturer mobility to improve human resource quality. He also urged the academic community to immediately establish cooperation relationships in global student and lecturer programs.

Prof. Nasir invited all parties to not only pursue being number one but to be the best in everything.

"Let's not aim to be number one, but let's be the best. With a new spirit, let's actualize our common goals," he urged.

Furthermore, Prof. Nasir also conveyed a message to students to strive to be the best and not to lose heart.

"Don't lose heart as UIN students, we must believe in being the best. In this Halalbihalal, be the people who bring about change and success," he said.

With a new spirit and commitment to better change, Prof. Nasir is optimistic that UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta will become a shining global reputation center in the future. (Alifiah/Faadhila Idris)
