Professor Nasir: Avoid "No Action Talk Only" in Achieving Global Reputation

Harunasution Auditorium, UIN Online NEWS - "Avoid 'no action talk only' in achieving global reputation," said The Commissioner of Bank Syariah Indonesia, Professor Muhammad Nasir, Ak. M.Si. Ph.D., during the Halalbihalal event themed "Fostering Brotherhood, Achieving Progress: Together Realizing UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta's Global Reputation" at Harunasution Auditorium, on Tuesday 4/23/2024. He emphasized UIN Jakarta's seriousness in achieving global reputation.

For him, the halalbihalal event is a good step towards fostering togetherness, not only camaraderie but also aligning thoughts and directions.

"We here are a good start in fostering togetherness, in thoughts and directions, even though there are different opinions," added the Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education (2014-2019).

Not only that, Professor Nasir also provided profound thoughts to improve university quality and productivity. According to him, the aspiration to achieve global reputation is similar to worship components. He described worship with three components: sharia, tariqa, and haqiqah.

In efforts to enhance global reputation, Professor Nasir explained the importance of sharia essence to achieve goals. According to him, having a clear vision and mission direction, as well as a solid corporate culture, is crucial in achieving global reputation. He also emphasized the need for real action rather than just talking.

In the essence of tariqa to achieve worship goals, methods or strategies are needed to execute them. Therefore, to achieve global reputation, designs or steps are needed to realize it.

"If you want to achieve worship goals, you have to know its sharia. You have to know how to design," he said.

In addition, the former Minister of Research, Technology, and Higher Education also explained about the revolutionary changes he made, as the key to Indonesia's success in gaining world recognition in the field of academic publications. The change is in the form of regulations that every professor must publish academic publications.

This policy became a major leap in Indonesia's history from never achieving global publication rankings to receiving the title of the country with the highest publication growth in the world.

"Alhamdulillah, after the policy was implemented, Indonesia received an award as The Highest Increasing Publication in The World. The score reached 1600 percent," he said.

In the essence of haqiqah, Professor Nasir explained that the key to success in achieving these goals is the focus of all university elements towards global competition. It is an effort to enhance national competitiveness.

"The key to success is if all elements in the study program focus on global competition, God willing, it can be done," he explained.

One important step taken by Professor Nasir is to allocate a minimum budget of 10 percent for world-class programs, including increasing student and lecturer mobility to improve human resources quality. He also urged the academic community to immediately build cooperation relationships in global student and lecturer programs.

Professor Nasir invites all parties to not only pursue being number one but to be the best in everything.

"We should not pursue being number one, but strive to be the best. With a new spirit, let's actualize our common goals," he urged.

Furthermore, Professor Nasir also gave a message to students to strive to be the best and not to be discouraged.

"Do not be discouraged as UIN students, we must believe in being the best. In this halalbihalal, be someone who brings change and success," he said.

With a new spirit and commitment to better change, Professor Nasir is optimistic that UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta will become a shining global reputation center in the future.
