Professor Hasanuddin AF passes away at 76

Rectorate, UIN News Online – Professor of UIN Jakarta, Hasanudin AF has passed away on Thursday (02/10/2022) at Premier Bintaro Hospital.

During his lifetime, the late Professor Hasanudin was actively teaching at the Faculty of Sharia and Law and the Master and Doctoral Program in Islamic Studies at the Graduate School (SPs) of UIN Jakarta. Apart from teaching, he is also active in various social and Islamic organizations such as the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI).

The late Hasanudin was born in Majalengka Regency, West Java, in 1945. After taking formal and informal education in various schools and Islamic boarding schools, he continued his education at the Sharia Faculty of IAIN Jakarta in 1974. He continue his master and doctoral degree at the Graduate Program of IAIN Jakarta in 1989 and 1994.

His academic career began when he was recruited as a lecturer at the Sharia Faculty of IAIN Jakarta. In addition to teaching, he is also trusted to be the Dean of the Faculty of Sharia.

As an academic, Hasanuddin focuses his studies on Islamic law. He taught various scientific subjects until the end of his life such as Contemporary Fatwas in the Muslim World, Issues in Indonesian Contemporary Fiqh, Islamic Law, and Contemporary Development of MUI Fatwa, Da'wah, and Islamic Education at the Graduate School of UIN Jakarta.

His academic career then led him to achieve the academic position of Professor of Islamic Law. Apart from teaching, he has written a number of works in the form of journal articles and books such as Dinamika Fatwa MUI dalam Satu Dasawarsa (co-authored with Dr. HM Asrorun Niam Sholeh), Pengantar Ilmu Hukum (one of the authors), and Anatomi Al-Qur’an: Perbedaan Qiraat Terhadap Istinbath Hukum dalam Al-Qur’an.

Due to his expertise in the field of Islamic law,  he was appointed as the administrator of the Central Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI). In this organization, the late Hasanudin is trusted to led the Central MUI Fatwa Commission, a commission that plays a major role in formulating fatwas referring to the religious life of the community, including various fatwas around Covid 19 and religious life during the pandemic situation.
