Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar Encourages UIN Jakarta's Faculty of Medicine to Achieve International Reputation

Tadjudin, UIN Online News – UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta needs to be encouraged to continuously strengthen its international reputation, especially through its Faculty of Medicine (FK). This was stated by the Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., at the 19th anniversary of FK UIN Jakarta held at Auditorium Prof. M.K. Tadjudin on Friday, May 31, 2024.
The event was attended by the Vice Rector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Tholabi, S.Ag., S.H., M.H., M.A., Vice Rector for Student Affairs, Prof. Ali Munhanif, M.A., Ph.D., UIN Jakarta Rector from 2006 to 2015, Prof. Dr. H. Komaruddin Hidayat, M.A., and Rector of the Indonesian International Islamic University (UIII), Prof. Jamhari, Ph.D.
"I am proud of the 19th anniversary celebration of FK UIN Jakarta. I have visited several countries to establish collaborations in the field of medicine, including in Saudi Arabia and Uzbekistan," said Prof. Asep.
The Rector of UIN Jakarta mentioned that FK UIN Jakarta, established in 2005, has a long history. He hopes that FK UIN Jakarta will have a well-documented history. Prof. Asep emphasized the importance of documenting this history to honor the early contributions of its founders.
"I hope there will be a readable history about the roles of Prof. Dr. dr. MK Tajudin Sp (And) and Prof. H. Azyumardi Azra, M.A., M.Phil., Ph.D., CBE., who were the early founders of the faculty of medicine. Therefore, create a museum that can be read. Without it, we cannot know the origins of this faculty of medicine," he stressed.
Prof. Asep also highlighted that FK UIN Jakarta should have distinguishing excellence compared to other medical faculties. FK UIN Jakarta needs to be encouraged and developed to gain an international reputation. The involvement of alumni should be well-built, not only to gather but to help and support each other.
The Rector of UIN Jakarta explained that FK UIN Jakarta was established to accommodate students from santri backgrounds, which is a distinctive feature that should not be forgotten.
"Congratulations to the Faculty of Medicine. Keep progressing, foster a good academic culture, and serve the community so that FK UIN Jakarta truly colors Indonesia and the world," concluded Prof. Asep.
Meanwhile, the Rector of UIN Jakarta from 2006 to 2015, Prof. Dr. H. Komaruddin Hidayat, M.A., in his speech, emphasized that UIN must metamorphose into an icon of Islamic scholarship in Indonesia and the world. UIN will not be recognized as a center of scholarship until there is a medical center.
"This is based on the golden age of Islam in the past, which was known for its science and medicine," he said.
Additionally, Prof. Komarudin also highlighted the crucial role of science in driving future progress. Religious knowledge tends to preserve the past, but science will continuously advance, and research will continue. FK UIN Jakarta must always be innovative and become a leader for other universities.
