PPM Evaluates The Implementation of Community Service (KKN) 2018
Serpong, UIN NEWS Online – Center for Community Service (PPM) UIN Jakarta evaluates the implementation of Community Service activities (KKN) in 2018. The evaluation forum was held in Serpong, South Tangerang, Monday (11/19/2018), and attended by monitoring team and local government representatives from Bogor (West Java) and Tangerang (Banten) Regencies.
The Head of PPM Djaka Badranaya in his opening remarks said that Community Service (KKN) activities for students which lasted for one month in mid-July and August were considered successful even though there were still some obstacles.
"The main obstacle is the lack of a budget, so that the KKN activities implemented by students are not effective," he said.
In the future, according to Djaka, PPM will create a new scheme by proposing a more adequate budget. The budget includes operational costs, supervisor fees, monitoring team fees, and debriefing activities.
Djaka also said that the implementation of KKN needs to be evaluated for improvements in the future, both in terms of technical and substance activities. "We need a lot of advice and input, whether the KKN activities that have been implemented are effective or not. What is the concept of future KKN activities? That's the purpose we gather and evaluate, "he explained.
PPM expert staff Eva Nugraha said that technically the implementation of Community Service Program activities was not yet fully expected. Besides the lack of budget, students as implementers of KKN in the field also do not have adequate concepts and expertise.
According to the Ushuluddin Faculty lecturer of UIN Jakarta, ideally community service education must be included in each department along with research methods subject. This way, at least students will gain extensive insight into community service and how it will be implemented in the field.
"The community service course is necessary. But unfortunately the idea cannot be realized because the SKS is not full, "he said.
Meanwhile, one of Nanang Syaikhu's monitorning teams said that the implementation of Community Service Program in the future needs to be conceptually and technically changed. Conceptually, students as implementers of KKN in the field must be positioned as agents, not just facilitators of activities.
As an agent, students must be able to position themselves as knowledgeable people they receive in college. For example, if there are extension activities, students themselves must provide counseling, not others.
"As a fact, in such activities, there are still many students who only act as facilitators. In fact, students themselves should provide direct counseling to the community. That's the right way, "he said.
Technically, the implementation of Community Service Program must be community based, like by using a homestay system or students living in community homes. In this way, explained Nanang, students will not only be close to the community but also be able to learn more effectively in the community.
"To date every student community service program lives in one place as a base camp and far from the real life of the community," he said.
For this reason, Nanang suggested that the concept of implementing such KKN be trialed in the coming year. "PPM also needs to make a guidebook so that students have a clear picture of KKN implementation from the basecamp model to the homestay model," he said.
For the record, this year's PPM has conducted KKN in two districts (Bogor and Tangerang). KKN was attended by almost 4,000 participants divided into 200 groups. The distribution, as many as 100 groups were placed in Bogor Regency and 100 groups in Tangerang Regency. (usa-rs)
