Postar FITK, Channeling the Student Talent and Interest Through Art Performances
FITK, UIN News Online – Karawitan musical sounds smooth and quietly. The faint voice burst into all around campus. On the 4 x 3 meter stage installed in front of the rector building on Thursday (09/03/2017), a group of students lively beat Javanese gamelan musical instruments called gending. The rhythm of the music accompanies the songs that sung by a student.
Gending musical performances by students in front of the rector building is part of the Education Fair (UIN Education Expo) held by UIN Jakarta. The students are the art activists who joined the Tarbiyah Art Corner (Postar) and Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teaching Sciences of UIN Jakarta. Besides the karawitan music, there are also other entertainments such as dances, single organ, and beat box (beat of the music that is played using the mouth).
Postar art gallery was established about 10 years ago by a few lectures and students. It aimed to provide a forum for FITK students to accommodate their talent and interest in art.
According to Postar Chairman Dimas M. Alfay, Postar not only accommodates the art of percussion musical activities such as Java karawitan, but a variety of other arts. As noted, there are about 10 activities developed by Postar studios. Among them are Sundanese degung gamelan, student’s choir, traditional dance, angklung, theater arts (drama), and marawis.
In addition, to sharpen student’s imagination, Postar also develop the writing skills, such as poetry, short stories, and essays. All activities are performed every afternoon during the week days.
"The training is available only in the afternoon. But sometimes we do it also on a weekend, such as Saturday and Sunday. That’s because student still studying for the morning or afternoon class, "said one of sixth semester Arabic Education student from FITK.
The Vice Dean Dr. Fauzan said, as one of the extracurricular activities or non-academic, Postar existences considered to be beneficial to students and also to FITK. At least, he said, through Postar every talents and interests of students in the field of art accommodates properly.
"We must realize that learning and character formation of students not only from academic class, but also the soft skills with educational value. In addition, for students who are in fact is prospective teachers who will teach at school, the activities give additional provision. Teachers are demanded to be skilled and creative, "he said.
As for FITK, Postar activities can be one of educational campaign to public. As is known, since its establishment until now, Postar art activists almost never have slack from orders. They are not only asked to perform in various campus activities, but also off-campus.
"With numerous performances outside campus, it can be said that Postar is also promoting FITK to society," said Fauzan, who is also the elder member. (im)
