PLKI UIN Jakarta Holds Immigration FGD to Succeed International Students of UIN Jakarta

ADIA Convention Wisma Syahida Inn, UIN News Online The Center for International Cooperation Services (PLKI) of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) to coincide with the Introduction to Campus Culture and Academics (PBAK) for International Students for the 2026/2027 Academic Year, Monday (24/08/2026). Carrying the theme "Increasing Immigration Awareness in Supporting the Success of International Student Studies", the event took place solemnly at ADIA Convention Wisma Syahida Inn, UIN Jakarta.

A total of 23 new international students attended the FGD activity. Their presence is clear evidence of the strengthening of the internationalization program of UIN Jakarta. Of the total participants, 20 students are recipients of the BLU Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta Rector's Scholarship, while the other three students took  the self-funded path. These students come from eight countries, namely Thailand, Afghanistan, Gambia, Nigeria, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, Cambodia, and Yemen.

The Head of PLKI UIN Jakarta, Prof. Arif Zamhari, M.Ag., Ph.D., said that the purpose of this FGD is to increase understanding and awareness of immigration regulations for foreign students through collaboration with the Tangerang Special Non-TPI Class I Immigration Office. He hopes that immigration services can optimally assist students who will contribute to the progress of Indonesia in the future.

The immigration authorities will be given strength by Allah SWT in carrying out their duties and doing their best to help international students. InsyaAllah, these students will become the future generation that will contribute to Indonesia’s progress. We may not see it now, but perhaps we will see it 10 years from now,” ujar Prof. Arif Zamhari.

The technical material session was filled by the Young Expert Immigration Analyst for Residence Permits and Immigration Status of the Tangerang Special Class I Non-TPI Immigration Office, Dody Permana Jaya, S.H., M.H. In his presentation, Dody explained the residence permit financing scheme, the flow of Visa application, and Limited Stay Permit (ITT), to the completeness of the required documents. He appealed to students not to worry as long as they comply with the rules for the validity of official documents.

"Supervision of international students of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta is in principle the same as supervision of other foreign nationals. As long as they are doing activities in accordance with the residence permits and visas given, there are no problems to worry about," said Dody.

Adding to this technical aspect, PLKI's International Student Coordinator, Ratna Faeruz, M.Pd., revealed that this year's orientation program series is packaged more comprehensively than previous years. This program includes signing agreements, namely agreement contracts, cultural day activities, and sustainable immigration assistance.

"Recipients of the Rector's Scholarship receive visa management facilities and Limited Stay Permits (ITT) paid from the Education Development Contribution (SPP). This financing also includes the Indonesian for Indonesian for Foreign Speakers (BIPA) program, dormitory facilities, and health insurance," explained Ratna.

Support from fellow foreign students was also conveyed by the Representative of the International Student Association (ISA) of UIN Jakarta, Mahjoba Hasina Wardak. The seventh-semester student of the Information Systems Study Program of the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) from Afghanistan emphasized the commitment of senior students in guiding their juniors.

As much as we can, we try to help them because they are new, and we also faced the exact same challenges as they do. All programs are still running in coordination with the international office,” tutur Hasina.

This synergy of mentoring is considered very crucial by the participants of the FGD. A new student of the Agribusiness Study Program, FST, Wajar Allhmad Jan, expressed his appreciation for the organization of this FGD.

This information is very important for us, especially as international students. If you reside in a country without understanding the regulations, it will cause many problems for you. With this support, we now clearly understand the immigration procedures,” ungkap Wajar.

As the closing of the series of activities in the Sharing Session With International Students session, the companion of PLKI International Students UIN Jakarta, Vhemmy Nurbaini Futuhatul Ansari, S.Si., M.I.Kom., said that the activity continued with a joint orientation session between international students and local students at the undergraduate level (S1) on Wednesday (26/08/2026), before later the students took part in the introduction at the respective faculty levels.

In addition to this, PLKI UIN Jakarta also ensures full commitment in providing technical and financial escort to international students. Assistance covers all administrative stages from the beginning to the issuance of official immigration documents.

"PLKI fully assists the entire immigration process. In addition, from a financial perspective, we also provide assistance in allocating funds for visa financing for students," he concluded.
