Physics Education Study Program Observe the “Ring of fire” solar eclipse phenomenon

FITK, UIN News Online – Gamma Astronomi Club (GAC) of the Physics education study program FITK UIN Jakarta along with the Faculty of Sharia and Law (FSH) UIN Jakarta held a joint observation on “Ring of fire” solar eclipse phenomenon in the parking lot of the UIN Jakarta Student Center.

The enthusiasm of the UIN Jakarta academic community in witnessing this phenomenon was quite high, including the Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis.

According to the Head of Physics education program FITK UIN Jakarta Iwan Permana Suwarna, this phenomenon can only be seen in certain regions in Indonesia, namely Padang Sidempuan, Sibolga, Siak Regency, Riau Islands, North Kalimantan and East Kalimantan.

“Other regions can only see this phenomenon as a partial eclipse, including on the UIN Jakarta campus,” he said.

For information, a solar eclipse occurs when the moon passes directly between the Earth and the sun. However, the distance between the Earth and the moon at the moment of the eclipse can dictate the type of eclipse that spectators will see. As a result, the moon does not always block out the entire sun. This bright ring of sunlight around the moon at the height of the annular solar eclipse is how it earned the nickname the "ring of fire" eclipse. (usa/mf)
