PBAK 2026: Yudi Latif Emphasizes the Internalization of Pancasila Values and the Nation's Character
Harun Nasution Auditorium, UIN News Online – Scholar and expert on Islamic and national thought, Dr. Yudi Latif, M.A., Ph.D., was present as a resource person in a talk show themed "Internalization of Pancasila Values and National Character". This talk show was attended by new students in 2026, on the second day of the Introduction to Academic and Student Culture (PBAK), Harun Nasution Auditorium, Thursday (27/8/2026).
In his presentation, he emphasized the importance of building a creative future education, character, and internalizing Pancasila values as the main capital to face the challenges of the times. According to him, Pancasila is the foundation of national integrity to realize the common good in the midst of the plurality of the nation.
"The main foundation for strengthening this character starts from the ability to recognize oneself. Therefore, Pancasila is present as a value of integrity and a meeting point of various diversity," he said.
"First, with religious teachings on the first Pancasila value, social teachings on the second precept, local wisdom of the archipelago on the third precept, geopolitics on the fourth precept, and social justice on the fifth precept. The public is urged not to focus on looking for differences, but to take care of similarities for the common good," added Yudi.
In order to form individuals and citizens with character, he refers to the nine core values of personal character according to Thomas Lickona. Among them are courage, justice, kindness, acceptance, honesty, humility, wisdom, self-reflection and respect.
Dr. Yudi Latif, M.A., Ph.D., emphasized that the extraordinary resilience of a nation lies in its morals and strength of character. High insight must be based on a solid foundation of character in order to be able to face the challenges of any era. He quoted a saying.
"Iltamisun-nūra min ayyi makānin wa fī ayyi waqtin, fad-dzulāmu lā yadūm, means reaching for light from anywhere and at any time, for darkness will not last forever."
The six public morals that need to be applied are care, justice, freedom, loyalty, authority, and purity. These values are increasingly perfect with the delivery of local teachings from Ki Hajar Dewantara through four mental stages.
"First, neng means stopping emotional uproar. Ning is clarity of mind, nung is the ability to focus on understanding the root of the problem, and nang is the achievement of solutions or success," he said.
In the ongoing session, Political Communication Analyst and Media Practitioner, Salsabila Syaira, S.I.P., M.I.P., Political Communication Analyst and Media Practitioner also added a discussion related to "Internalization of Pancasila Values and National Character".
Salsabila Syaira, expressed her critical views regarding the practice of Pancasila values and humanitarian ethics in the current digital era. Pancasila should not only be understood as a value that is socialized from state institutions to the community. These values need to be reflected in common life and shown through the example of state institutions and officials.
"Pancasila is misguided because it comes from the highest position and is sent down, even though Pancasila should come from a common spirit," said Salsabila.
He emphasized that the Indonesian people basically have very firmly held the value of Pancasila. Therefore, the highest commitment and example should be shown by the officials and institutions of the country itself.

As the closing of the material, Dr. Yudi Latif conveyed a profound message for the entire academic community of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta regarding the depth of insight that needs to continue to be the main driver of UIN Jakarta students.
"In addition to having general insights, we must also have a depth of religious insight. Religious teachings must actually be a driving force for us to move forward. This is where UIN's important role is: how to present the 'water' of religious coolness and a real example to bring this nation out of darkness to the light of science and civilization," he concluded.
