PAI Workshop: Kitab Kuning Reading Ability is Mandatory for PAI Student Candidates

FITK Building, UIN NEWS Online - Department of Islamic Education (PAI) Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training UIN Jakarta held Workshop on "Pengembangan Kurikulum Konsentrasi Jurusan PAI," on Tuesday (05/15/2018) in FITK Meeting Room.

Present As the speaker, Syafi'i (Head of Sub-division of Islamic Religious Higher Education), Dr Bahrissalim MA (Director of Development Madrasah UIN Jakarta), Dr. Akhmad Sodiq MA (Lecturer of FITK UIN Jakarta), and Dr. Sururin MAg (Chairman of LPM UIN Jakarta) with Keynote Speech from Prof. Dr. Abuddin Nata MA (Professor of PAI UIN Jakarta).

Abuddin said, from the previous Department of PAI became special majors in UIN Jakarta whose alumni can occupy and master various fields of religious discipline.

"The key is the mastery of Arabic literature. Learning Tafsir directly using the original literature, the book Arabic Tafsir. In the past, there was no reference to the Indonesian language, it’s all in Arabic, "said Abuddin in front of the workshop participants.

It is to produce gold even though the input was copper, continued Abuddin giving metaphor.  The prospective students of PAI should be tested on their ability to read   Kitab Kuning and Al Quran.

In line with Abuddin, Dr. Akhmad Sodiq proposed that the PAI Department be given the authority to classify his students on Qiraatul Kitab and Qiraatul Qurán material.

"Students must be closely followed. If during the comprehensive examination, then we can’t do anything. We must be forced to graduate them with limited ability, "said Sodiq.

In addition, for PAI graduates to have professional knowledge, Sodiq encourages the opening of Prodi PAI to be realized, such as Prodi Fiqh, Tafsir-Hadith, Islamic Thought, and History of Islamic Culture.

Meanwhile, Shafi'i shows various surveys of poor quality of PAI teachers with several factors, including weakening of education campus function, either as teacher character or competence.

"As a result of transformation, its function is weakened, the standard is more loose. There used to be PGA, SPG in high school, now only exist at undergraduate level, "he said.

Another factor according to Syafi'i, the weak teacher was because almost 600 PTKIS who have Prodi Trabiyah, teaching staff is not a graduate of Tarbiyah.
