P2EKS UIN Jakarta Hosts National Seminar on Islamic Financial Literacy

Main Auditorium, UIN News Online The Center for Islamic Economics and Finance Development (P2EKS) at UIN Jakarta successfully hosted a National Seminar titled "Islamic Financial Literacy" on Wednesday, (13/11/2024), at the Harun Nasution Auditorium. This event aimed to deepen public understanding, particularly among young people, of the significance of Islamic finance literacy as a foundation for a fair and sustainable economy.

The seminar began with a traditional Lenggang Nyai dance, followed by a reading of the holy Qur'an, the national anthem "Indonesia Raya," and UIN Jakarta's Hymn. High-profile figures, including academics and financial leaders, attended, providing insights into the importance of Islamic finance education across Indonesia.

Prof. Dr. Euis Amalia, M.Ag., Director of P2EKS, highlighted the need to address low financial literacy rates in Indonesia. “If Islamic finance is managed effectively, it can establish a just system that prevents harmful activities like online gambling, creating a more inclusive economy,” Prof. Euis stated.

Dr. Hj. Siti Ma'rifah, SH., MH., Head of Banten’s Regional Islamic Finance and Economy Committee (KDEKS), praised UIN Jakarta’s commitment to supporting Islamic finance development. UIN Jakarta Rector, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., expressed pride in the university’s role in advancing Islamic financial literacy and thanked all organizations involved. “UIN Jakarta will continue to lead in promoting inclusive Islamic finance across Indonesia,” he noted.

Dr. Friderica Widyasari Dewi, SE., MBA, Executive Head of Financial Service Conduct Oversight at OJK, emphasized Indonesia’s potential to become a global leader in Islamic finance, given its majority Muslim population. “Young generations, especially Gen Z, must understand the importance of Islamic finance to protect themselves from illegal products,” she said, expressing her hope that the event would inspire Islamic Financial Literacy Ambassadors.

The first session featured speakers like Dr. H. Indra Gunawan from the Hajj Financial Management Agency (BPKH), discussing the importance of hajj fund management, and Nyimas Rohmah from OJK, who explored innovations and challenges in Islamic banking, now valued at Rp919.83 trillion. Additional talks covered the benefits of Islamic insurance and products supporting MSMEs.

The second session, a talk show titled "The Importance of Financial Literacy for a Safer Future," featured Ferry Irwandi, CEO of Malaka Project, and Prof. Nur Hidayah, M.A., Ph.D., who discussed how targeted literacy programs could improve students' grasp of Islamic finance.

The seminar concluded with prayers and a strong call to action. This event is expected to inspire the young generation to become more engaged in Islamic finance, helping to build a robust, inclusive economy for Indonesia.
