On the Occasion of Indonesia's 81st Anniversary, UIN Jakarta Strengthens Values of Integrity and Discipline Among the Academic Community
Main Field, UIN News Online - UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta held a flag ceremony to commemorate the 81st Independence Day of the Republic of Indonesia on Monday (17/8/2026). The Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., acted as the Ceremony Inspector. In his address, the Rector invited the academic community to interpret independence by continuing to contribute through education, research, innovation, and community service, in line with the theme “Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia”.
The ceremony was attended by the Vice Rector for General Administration, Prof. Dr. Imam Subchi, M.A., the Vice Rector for Cooperation and Institutional Affairs, Din Wahid, M.A., Ph.D., the Head of General Administration, Academic, and Student Affairs Bureau (AUK), the Head of Planning and Finance Bureau (PK), deans, vice deans, and the academic community of UIN Jakarta. The raising of the Red and White Flag was carried out by the Paskibra Menwa of UIN Jakarta, consisting of the university's freshmen of class 2026.
In his mandate, the Rector conveyed that independence is not merely a historical heritage to be commemorated, but a mandate that must be fulfilled through struggles aligned with current challenges. For higher education institutions, this struggle is manifested through education, research, innovation, and community service that generate positive impacts on society.
“Rather, we must interpret it as a mandate that must be fulfilled and carried forward through struggles relevant to today's challenges. If in the past our freedom fighters and ancestors struggled by seizing and defending independence, today we must continue it by developing Indonesia into a more educated, dignified, just, and prosperous nation,” said the Rector.
The Rector assessed that national challenges are growing increasingly complex, driven by global geopolitical dynamics, climate change, and technological competition. In such conditions, unity and integrity serve as absolute social capital that must be reinforced by all elements of the nation, including the academic community.
“In facing these challenges, one of the essential social capitals we must strengthen is the spirit of unity and integrity as the Indonesian nation. Despite differing backgrounds, we are one unified nation: the Indonesian nation,” he affirmed.
He added that universities hold a responsibility to act as strategic partners in addressing national issues. Support for national development can be realized through scholarly contributions, research, innovation, policy recommendations, human resource development, and community service, while retaining a critical and constructive academic posture.
“Higher education institutions must step forward as strategic partners in finding solutions to various national challenges,” he expressed.
In the context of UIN Jakarta, the Rector emphasized that Islamic higher education should not merely produce graduates, but must also generate relevant knowledge, ideas, and solutions for society. The academic community is also encouraged to build integrity, professionalism, empathy, mutual respect for differences, and commitment to national progress.
To the entire academic community, the Rector urged every element to optimize their roles. “As educators, let us dedicate our best energy to educating the nation's children as well as possible. To the administrative staff, let us strengthen our professionalism and service quality as part of good university governance. To the students, let us prepare ourselves with knowledge, competence, creativity, and character to become contributors to Indonesia's development,” he said.
The 81st Indonesian Independence Day momentum also reinforced UIN Jakarta's strategic direction as a university contributing through education, research, innovation, and community engagement. The Rector concluded his address by inviting the academic community to strengthen collaboration and make independence the foundation for producing impactful works for the nation and humanity.
“UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta must continue to serve as part of the nation's intellectual strength, a strategic development partner, and a nurturing environment for a knowledgeable, integral, and character-driven Indonesian generation with strong patriotism,” he concluded.
The commemoration of the 81st Independence Day serves as a reminder for UIN Jakarta to continuously strengthen unity and carry out its mission. Through education, research, innovation, and community service, UIN Jakarta remains committed to nurturing a knowledgeable and integral generation capable of realizing a Sovereign, Just, and Prosperous Indonesia.
