Nurturing Quran Memorizers, UIN Jakarta's Faculty of Ushuluddin Routinely Holds Khotmil Qur'an
FU Building, UIN Online News – UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta's Faculty of Ushuluddin continues to hold its regular Khotmil Qur'an (completion of Qur'an recitation) every first Monday of the month. Besides being part of community service, the activity aims to foster Qur'an memorizers within the campus environment.
The initiator of the activity and Vice Dean for General Administration, Dr. Lilik Ummi Kaltsum, M.A., serves as the supervising lecturer for the event. She regularly guides students in listening to Qur'an recitations in turns, with the primary goal of praying for the academic community and helping students who are memorizing the Qur'an maintain their memorization.
“Every Monday at the beginning of the month, there is a Khotmil Qur'an (by memorization) activity by the male and female hafiz (Qur'an memorizers) students of the Faculty of Ushuluddin. Please feel free to join if you wish,” said Dr. Lilik Ummi Kaltsum on Monday (July 7, 2025).
She added that this activity also aims to ensure that students memorizing the Qur'an, especially from the Faculty of Ushuluddin, continuously maintain their memorization. “We don't want hafiz and hafizah to forget their memorization after graduating,” she added.
This Khotmil Qur'an activity began in late 2019. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the activity was temporarily halted and only resumed in 2023.
Dean of the Faculty of Ushuluddin, Prof. Drs. Ismatu Ropi, M.A., Ph.D., expressed appreciation for the consistency of the activity. According to him, such religious activities are important as a balance between intellectuality and spirituality in the academic environment.
“This faculty that we love must be a place where its academic community pursues knowledge dreams as high as the sky, but always maintains strong spiritual roots that penetrate the earth,” said Prof. Ismatu Ropi.
The Khotmil Qur'an activity is open to the entire academic community of the Faculty of Ushuluddin and is expected to strengthen the scholarly tradition based on Islamic spiritual values. (M. Najib Tsauri/ZM)
