New normal: student learning processes becomes the main priority

Ciputat, UIN News Online – The new normal era will not reduce the commitment of UIN Jakarta in providing learning services for its student. This commitment is deemed necessary to be supported by an adaptive budget policy.

This was said by the Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis during the IDN Times virtual talk show program entitled ‘Adaptasi Kebiasaan Baru di Lembaga Pendidikan Islam’, Thursday (07/23/2020). Also present in the event, Indonesian Minister for Religious Affairs Fachrul Razi and the Head of Tebu Ireng Islamic boarding school Jombang Abdul Halim Mahfudz.

Guided by IDN Times chief editor Uni Lubis, the speakers explained their practice and experience in providing educational services in each institution during pandemic situation. The Minister himself explained the aspects of the Ministry of Religious Affairs public policies as an umbrella for Islamic education institutions in the country.

UIN Jakarta itself, said the Rector, tried as much as possible to organize student learning services by implementing the Distance Learning (PJJ) strategy. “In addition, the library and laboratory have been reopened for students. I don't want student services to be constrained,” she said.

The Rector also added, tnew normal era presents various challenges in academic services and academic administration to be more innovative, fast, and precise. The utilization of digital technology infrastructure must be immediately adapted in various service lines.

“During the implementation of the Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB), UIN Jakarta cooperated with a number of telecommunications providers, and allocated an internet quota budget for the implementation of academic services. Nevertheless, the policy was carried out as efficiently as possible so as not to exceed the established budget policy,” said Rector.

In addition, the Rector also hopes that the design of education budgeting policies in the new normal era can be immediately adapted to provide flexibility in the implementation of digital-based learning (online learning). According to Amany, distance learning is the most possible way in carrying out education process during pandemic and new normal era, so it must be carried out systematically.

“education must be carried out seriously. Beyond what is done, also beyond what is planned. The transformation is that the Distance Learning Program must be made systematically, not sporadically,” she said.

Such budgeting policy, she added, is the best investment in building the quality of the nation's future generations.

“Educational investment must be seen as a long-term investment and should be made as a top priority,” she concluded (usa/zm)
