Navigating the Digital and Climate Crises: UIN Jakarta’s 9th ICIIS & GIC Summit Opens in Lombok
Lombok, UIN Online News – The Graduate School of UIN Jakarta, in collaboration with the Graduate Program of UIN Mataram, officially inaugurated its prestigious annual academic forum, The 9th International Colloquium on Interdisciplinary Islamic Studies (ICIIS) & The Graduate International Conference (GIC). Held at the Jayakarta Hotel in Lombok on Monday (5/18), this year’s summit is themed, "Divine Balance in a Digital Age: Islamic Studies Response to Climate Change and Technological Hegemony."
The high-level academic gathering was attended by prominent figures, including the Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, Ph.D.; the Governor of West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), Dr. H. Lalu Muhammad Iqbal; the Rector of UIN Mataram, Prof. Dr. H. Masnun Tahir; and the Vice Mayor of Mataram, TGH. Mujiburrahman, SH.
The colloquium also drew globally renowned international scholars, including Prof. Dr. Arndt Graf from Goethe-Universität Frankfurt, Germany, and Prof. Dr. Muhammad Munir from the International Islamic University Islamabad, Pakistan.
The Director of the Graduate School, Prof. Zulkifli, Ph.D., explained that the conference serves as a strategic hub for high-level intellectual exchange between faculty members and postgraduate students. He emphasized that all scholarly papers presented during the colloquium are strictly peer-reviewed and targeted for publication in high-impact, Scopus-indexed international journals.
This aggressive publication policy directly aligns with UIN Jakarta’s strategic vision to elevate its standing in prestigious global university metrics, including the Scopus Institutional Ranking, QS World University Rankings (WUR), and Times Higher Education (THE).
"This extraordinary milestone is the result of collective hard work. It reflects not only the dedication of our professors and lecturers but also the tangible contributions of our graduate students, who are required to publish their research in accredited national and reputable international journals," Prof. Zulkifli asserted.
Prof. Zulkifli also expressed his deepest appreciation to the organizing committee for orchestrating the successful event, acknowledging the leadership of International Office Head Prof. Arief, Master’s Program Head Prof. Hamdani and Secretary Rizki Handayani, Prof. Rusli, Mr. Fuad, and Mr. Adeneng, alongside strategic institutional partners from UIN Riau and UIN Malang.
While the conference maintained a rigorous academic atmosphere, the committee integrated a wellness and rejuvenation agenda to boost productivity. Following the conclusion of the intensive scientific presentation sessions, the delegates and participants embarked on a cultural and nature excursion to Lombok’s world-famous tropical paradise, Gili Trawangan.
