National Mining Seminar: Prospects of Sustainable Mining in Indonesia
Harun Nasution Auditorium, UIN News Online – Mining Engineering Study Program held a National Seminar themed “Prospects for Sustainable Mining in Indonesia”. The event was attended by national mining experts and students, and presented several expert speakers who discussed various important aspects related to the sustainability of the mining industry. The national seminar took place at the Harun Nasution Auditorium on Thursday (24/10/2024).
The chairperson of the event, Najwa Salsabiila, said that the Papua theme was raised in this seminar because so far there have been no students from Papua in the Mining Engineering Study Program, so it is hoped that it can open up new opportunities for the development of talents in the mining sector from the region.
Representing the leadership, Vice Rector for Student Affairs and Alumni, Prof. Ali Munhanif, M.A., Ph.D., emphasized the importance of this seminar to encourage mining research and development that is in line with the principle of preserving the environment. According to him, this effort is very important so that the mining industry can adapt to the demands of global sustainability.
Also attending the event was the Head of Mining Engineering Study Program, Andrew Fiade, M. Kom. Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology Husni Teja Sukmana ST, M.Sc, Ph.D.
This seminar presented three main materials, namely the Coal Mining Company Strategy towards Net Zero Emission in 2060 delivered by Ir. Priyadi Sutarso, President Director of PT Adaro Indonesia. In his presentation, Priyadi explained the company's long-term plan to achieve net zero emissions, through technological innovation and operational efficiency based on renewable energy.
Rizal Kasli, ST, IPU, ASEAN Eng, discussed mine financing strategies, focusing on innovative financing methods to support mine sustainability and expansion in the digital transformation era.
Finally, Application of Modern Technology in Management to Improve Efficiency and Effectiveness of the Downstream Process by Ir. Wisnu Salman, ST, IPM, ASEAN Eng, C.EIA. Wisnu highlighted how modern technologies, such as automation and digitalization, can help improve production efficiency while minimizing environmental impacts.
The seminar is expected to broaden the horizons of the participants, especially students, on the importance of sustainable mining prospects in Indonesia. By maintaining a balance between natural resource exploitation and environmental preservation, this seminar is part of the effort to create a globally competitive and environmentally friendly mining industry.
