Ministry of Social Affairs-UIN Jakarta Held Socialization on Indigenous Community Empowerment

Diorama Room, UIN News Online – The Ministry of Social Affairs of Indonesia (Kemensos RI), in collaboration with FIDK UIN Jakarta Social Welfare Department, held socialization and introduction on Indigenous Community Empowerment Program (KAT), Tuesday (17/10/2017). Socialization and introduction of KAT are followed by hundreds of UIN Jakarta’s student.

The event was attended by Director of Indigenous Community Empowerment, Ministry of Social RI Hasbullah, Dean of FIDK Dr. Arif Subhan MA, and FIDK Social Welfare Department head Lisma Dyawati Fuaida M.Si. in addition to the socialization, the activities are also filled with the visit of Indigenous Communities Ambassador of Kemensos RI.

In his presentation, Hasbullah said that KAT empowerment is one of the important focuses of government. As citizens, they are entitled to get their rights like other Indonesian citizens.

Based on KAT Directorate of Empowerment report, he added, there are at least 231,266 Family Heads (KK) as part of the community (Indigenous community) living in remote areas of Indonesia, they have limited access to education, health and energy services. Such conditions require the government to empower with a focus on minimizing access to basic services such as education, health, and civil registration.

In carrying out the KAT empowerment, holds four pillars; increasing the range and quality of social empowerment, human, social and cultural resource improvement. “Economy and environment, enhancing the role of local government, community institutions and local-level social service tools, as well as increasing the active role of the community,” he said.

Related to that, 123,977 KK from total of 231,268 underdeveloped indigenous KK have been successfully targeted by Kemensos RI KAT empowerment program.

This year, Kemensos still empowers 3,955 KK KAT. "The rest, 123,336 KK, which have not been empowered," he explained.

In addition to the government's empowerment program, the government is also continuously providing an opportunity for assistance in the field of business partnerships so they can get the same social welfare services with other communities.

Meanwhile, Lisma appreciate the initiative of the Directorate of Empowerment of Ministry of Social Affairs KAT to socialize KAT empowerment to the students. According to Lisma, this socialization is important because it can open students' insight about the deficiencies of remote indigenous communities. (usa)
