Ministry of Religious Affairs Strengthens Child Protection, UIN Jakarta Develops Love-Based Education
Jakarta, UIN News Online – The Ministry of Religious Affairs (Kemenag) is strengthening cross-ministerial collaboration to support child protection and development through safe and affectionate educational environments. This government collaborative effort was conveyed by the Minister of Religious Affairs (Menag), Prof. Dr. K.H. Nasaruddin Umar, M.A., during the National Education Day Dialogue event at the Auditorium of the Ministry of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection (KemenPPPA), Central Jakarta, Thursday (7/5/2026).
The dialogue involved Kemenag, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen), and KemenPPPA to strengthen synergy in child protection. Also accompanying the Minister of Religious Affairs were Special Staff to the Minister of Religious Affairs Ismail Cawidu, Director of Religious Education and Islamic Boarding Schools, and Head of Public Relations, Information, and Publication Bureau Thobib Al-Asyhar.
This cross-sectoral cooperation is deemed important by Kemenag to ensure the fulfillment of children's rights while creating an educational environment that supports their growth and development. Efforts undertaken include strengthening regulations, preventing violence, and involving various stakeholders in creating safe learning spaces.
Minister of Religious Affairs Prof. Nasaruddin Umar emphasized that child protection requires the involvement of various parties, including families, educators, educational institutions, and society. Therefore, education should not only be oriented toward academic achievement, but also needs to pay attention to character building and the fulfillment of children's rights.
"I am here to invite you to share the space of responsibility. We need collaboration and maximum commitment from all parties to safeguard the childhood of our children," stressed the Minister of Religious Affairs.
One of the approaches promoted by Kemenag is the Love-Based Curriculum (Kurikulum Berbasis Cinta / KBC), which places values of affection, empathy, and care as an important part of the educational process. This approach is expected to strengthen the relationship between educators and students while building a more humanistic learning environment.
In line with this idea, UIN Jakarta through the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training (FITK) previously held an academic forum titled "Implementation of the Love-Based Curriculum for a Peaceful World". The forum featured speakers from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education to discuss the application of love values in education.
Responding to the collaborative effort initiated by Kemenag, the Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., stated the importance of education that instills love, empathy, and universal human values combined with Islamic identity.
“From the campus, we want to instill love, empathy, and universal human values combined with Islamic identity,” he said.
In addition to developing humanistic educational ideas, UIN Jakarta also has a Center for Gender and Child Studies (PSGA) under the coordination of the Institute for Research and Community Service (LP2M). This study center plays a role in promoting gender equality and justice through educational activities, research, and community service.
One of the efforts carried out by PSGA was organizing the Mother's Day Seminar with KemenPPPA, accompanied by the declaration of UIN Jakarta as a Women and Child-Friendly Campus. This initiative is part of efforts to build a safer educational environment and strengthen attention to the protection of women and children.
In April 2026, PSGA also held a Scientific Writing Workshop on Gender and Child Issues as part of strengthening gender perspectives and efforts to prevent and handle sexual violence within higher education environments. This activity serves as a space for developing academic knowledge regarding gender and child issues.
Through the development of love-based education and the strengthening of PSGA's role, UIN Jakarta has the scope to contribute to building a humanistic, inclusive educational environment oriented toward child protection. These efforts align with Kemenag's encouragement that child protection becomes a shared responsibility realized through policies, educational practices, and community engagement.
