Medicanteen at UIN Jakarta Faculty of Medicine: More Than Just a Healthy Cafeteria
Faculty of Medicine, UIN Online News – For students of the Faculty of Medicine (FK) at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, busy schedules are part of everyday life. From morning until late afternoon, their days are filled with lectures and laboratory sessions. As a result, having a comfortable place to rest and recharge has become increasingly important. This is where Medicanteen comes in—not merely as a cafeteria, but as a healthy dining space and a welcoming place where students can unwind.
The faculty previously operated a cafeteria, but its management did not fully meet students' expectations and eventually ceased operations. The faculty later renovated the facility and introduced a new concept focused on health and quality.
“All food vendors must meet nutritional standards. Instant meals and processed foods are not permitted,” explained Erike Anggraini Suwarsono, Vice Dean for General Administration at the Faculty of Medicine.
As a cafeteria within a medical school, maintaining high nutritional standards is a top priority. Every menu is required to include a balanced combination of carbohydrates, protein, and vegetables. One of the food stalls is even managed by a clinical nutrition specialist, ensuring that calorie content and nutritional composition are carefully planned. Despite these quality standards, meals remain affordable for students, with prices ranging from IDR 5,000 to IDR 20,000.
Medicanteen also operates a cashless payment system through a centralized cashier. Its food court concept creates a more organized dining experience, while its monthly revenue of IDR 60–70 million reflects the strong trust and consistent patronage of students.
To enhance comfort, the facility provides Wi-Fi access, a clean dining environment, background music, and a smoke-free atmosphere. Students are also encouraged to develop responsible habits by returning their own trays and dining utensils after meals.
On the fourth floor, students can enjoy Medikafe, a café overlooking the scenic Situ Gintung. The space has become a favorite spot for studying, relaxing, and socializing.
Looking ahead, the Faculty of Medicine plans to transform Medicanteen into a larger common space. Expansion plans include extending the facility to the second floor, which will serve as an additional dining area as well as Mediklub, a recreational and fitness center featuring a gymnasium and a multipurpose hall for basketball, futsal, badminton, and other sports.
“Our vision is to create an integrated ecosystem where students can eat, socialize, study, and exercise—all in one place,” Dr. Erike concluded.
