Maintaining Quality: PTKIN New Student Admission Committee Ready to Tighten SSE UM-PTKIN System Against Cheating
Rectorate Building, UIN Online News— The State Islamic Religious Higher Education Entrance Examination (UM-PTKIN) 2025 is approaching the registration deadline scheduled for May 22, 2025. Therefore, the PTKIN New Student Admission (PMB) Committee is starting to prepare its examination mechanism.
The selection process at PTKIN is an important part in maintaining quality, integrity, and fairness in the academic world. Recognizing this, the National Committee for New Student Admission (PMB) PTKIN continues to make improvements considering the ever-evolving technology.
This was the common thread from the socialization and UM-PTKIN selection mechanism activity attended by all PTKIN Local Working Groups (Pokja) virtually via Zoom, Wednesday (21/05/2025). Besides providing technical discussions, the forum was also held as a reflection to strengthen selection governance that is free from cheating and more adaptive to technological developments and participant needs.
Strong Commitment from the National Committee
In his remarks, the Chairman of the National PMB PTKIN Committee, Prof. Masnun Tahir, emphasized that hard work and collective commitment have been made to continuously improve the quality of the PTKIN entrance selection.
“Of course, the national committee team has worked very hard to continuously improve the quality of the PTKIN Entrance Examination. We want this process to not only be technically smooth, but also of high quality and trustworthy,” emphasized Prof. Masnun.
Prof. Masnun underlined that electronic-based systems like SSE bring many benefits, but must still be strictly monitored so as not to create loopholes for irregularities. “Technology provides efficiency, but integrity must be maintained. We must prove that digital selection can remain fair, objective, and accountable,” he added.
Quality and Ethics: Two Pillars of Selection
Behind the sophistication of the system, the success of the selection cannot be separated from ethical values and quality. This was firmly conveyed by Prof. Zul Fahmi, Coordinator of Quality Assurance, who is the main guardian of the accountability of the selection process.
“We must maintain transparency, quality, as well as the values of fairness and honesty in every stage of the selection. It's not just technical, but a matter of moral commitment,” said Prof. Zul.
Prof. Zul added that quality cannot be separated from integrity. But it's about building a selection ecosystem that can be trusted by all parties: participants, parents, campuses, and the wider community.
“The quality of SSE implementation is a long-term process. It requires an audit system, comprehensive evaluation, and a willingness to continuously improve,” he added.
SSE Continuously Strengthened and Updated Annually
The Electronic Selection System (SSE) has become the backbone of the entrance examination implementation at PTKIN. The use of SSE allows participants to take the exam online, flexibly, and efficiently. However, with the increasing development of technology, there are greater challenges, especially in aspects of data security, supervision, and control of potential cheating.
“The quality of our SSE continues to be improved from year to year. Many aspects have undergone improvements and the results are very positive, both from the technical side and participant experience, such as anticipating jockeys and communication devices in any form that could lead to cheating during the SSE examination,” explained Haris Setiaji, Coordinator of the SSE Working Group.
Harris mentioned that technical innovations are being developed, such as monitoring participant behavior, a device tracking system, to the use of smart algorithms to detect anomalies in exam-taking patterns.
“We collect data every year, analyze it, and then it becomes the basis for system improvements. This is a serious effort carried out throughout the year, not just approaching the exam,” he added.
