The event was held with the hope of reviving the spirit of Ciputat literacy as a center of critical and intellectual thinking.

A number of Ciputat intellectual communities that participated in organizing this event included Gerak Gerik Book Workshop, Ciputat Student Forum, Ciputat Islamic Student Association, Ciputat Branch of Indonesian Islamic Student Movement, IMM Ciputat, GMNI, LPM Institut, KAMMI Tangsel, GMNI. The committee release said that the activity itself will be held for three days, from Wednesday-Friday, December 4-6, 2024. The event, which is open to the public, is conducted with a number of activities such as book exhibitions, public discussions, public lectures by intellectual figures, and student art performances.

Representing the leadership and academic community of UIN Jakarta, Head of LP2M UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, Prof. Amelia Fauzia, MA. Ph.D., gave her appreciation and support to this event. According to her, this activity is an important part in reviving Ciputat's intellectual tradition of critical thinking.

“Our appreciation for the efforts of fellow students, for me this is a revitalization of high ciputat culture, intellectual revitalization. We all know that the power of UIN Jakarta lies in the intellectuals we have,” she said.

In her explanation, Professor Amelia revealed, intellectuality in the context of literacy refers to the ability to think critically, analyze information, and be able to filter various information circulating and diverse in the current digitalization era. These various abilities are part of what must be grown in the way of Ciputat students think.

The intellectual tradition, said Professor Amelia again, not only raises the name of Ciputat, but Indonesia as well. A number of students and alumni who appear in the public sphere in political, social, educational and other aspects were born from Ciputat's strong intellectual tradition.

“I see, it turns out that this intellectual power not only raises Ciputat, but also raises Indonesia,” he added.

This Professor of Islamic History said, there are things that are important contributions to the process of political change towards Islam in Indonesia. One of them was contributed by the intellectual group, Mazhab Ciputat. They play an important role in making Islam and the Muslim community in Indonesia play a deeper role in the life of the nation and state, the role of linkages with NGOs and the spirit of reform.

Islam in Indonesia itself, he continued, processed and developed rapidly in the reform era. Mazhab Ciputat itself refers to a group of Muslim intellectuals from UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta. This intellectual movement renews Islamic thought in a moderate and inclusive manner.

Furthermore, Prof. Amelia Fauzia hopes that the Ciputat Reading literacy festival will be an important part of strengthening Ciputat intellectualism again.

“So I think Ciputat Membaca is an effort to strengthen the culture of intellectualism that has always existed. Then, reading is the entrance to strengthen intellectuality,” she said.

In UIN NEWS Online monitoring, students seemed to be interested in this literacy festival. A number of intellectual figures from Ciputat are also scheduled to attend and fill the activities.

Aji Pangestu, a student of Hadith Science, Faculty of Ushuluddin, who attended the event expressed his appreciation for the organization of the event. This student who joined one of the Ciputat discussion forums hoped that the activity could encourage the enthusiasm of students in strengthening the spirit of Ciputat intellectualism.

“I hope this will be an important effort in encouraging the power of literacy in the campus environment, as well as refining intellectuality in literacy, especially among Ciputat students,” he hoped.
