LP2M Asked for Student Involvement in Researches
Rectorate Building, UIN NEWS Online— Institute for Research and Community Service (LP2M) UIN Jakarta asked lecture-researcher who received grant to involve student in doing their research. Besides giving them research experience, involvement in research serve as regeneration for next researcher.
 That was conveyed by the Chief of LP2M UIN Jakarta Prof. Dr. Arskal Salim GP MA on the discussion with UIN NEWS Online crew, Thursday (9/3/2017). According to Arskal, the involvement of students in research activities will help the lecturers to do their research obligations. "It does not matter if the students do the field work while the lecturer directs them," he said.
Arskal explained the involvement of students in research activities enable students to gain direct experience in more serious research activities. "Theoretically, usually students have received research methodology courses. By directly engaged, they can experience the way research is done," he said.
Moreover, Arskal said, the involvement of students in research activities are part of the excellence regeneration in the world of research. "As academics, we certainly have the expectations of our students to achieve better research achievements. Through the involvement, at least they have been directed toward the right way," he said.
Arskal revealed the evaluation of LP2M in the last two years, that the involvement of research so far has reached around 30% of total recipients of research grants per year. Besides final year students, research involving the Master degree students with diverse background and scientific research themes.
"This year, we expect the percentage of student participation up to 50%," Arskal added.
2015 Grant Receivers to Published Research
On the other hand, Arskal also asked the research grant recipient lecturer batch 2015 to immediately publish their research results. In 2015 research grants, he said, UIN Jakarta established a policy that certain cluster of research grant recipient to publish their results in the accredited national journal or SCOPUS indexed international journal.
"There are some requirements that must be met, such as the obligation to publish their research results in national and international journals. So, for those who have not met the requirement, do we ask for immediate publication," he said.
These preconditions, Arskal explained, related to the consequence that the following lecturer can’t get research grant in the following year if the said lecturer did not publish their work. "At the minimum they should present the submission of journal as a proof. So it could be an exception," he explained.
UIN Jakarta, Arskal explained, is very concerned with the publication of scientific articles of the lecturers. In fact, the publication of the journal is also in the interests of lecturers themselves. For instance, the Ministry of Research and Higher Education planned to make the number of publications in a given time as the main evaluation materials for the due provision of functional and honorary professor rank of associate professor and professor.
As known, throughout 2015-2016, UIN Jakarta itself continues to increase its budget allocation to fund research grants. In addition to Islamic studies, the funded research themes include fields ranging from economics, politics, psychology, science, to public health. In the same period, the number of articles indexed SCOPUS lecturer UIN Jakarta also increased from 54 articles to 59 articles. (rs)
