KND RI Approved, UIN Jakarta Showcases Inclusivity Practices in Educational Institution

Conference Room of the AAK Bureau, UIN Online News — The National Commission for Disabilities (KND) of the Republic of Indonesia commends UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta for its authentic implementation of inclusive practices for disabilities. It was expressed at the National Disability Commission's visit to the UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta campus on Thursday (August 7, 2025).

KND Deputy Chairman Deka Kurniawan conducted a firsthand assessment of several elements, demonstrating UIN Jakarta's dedication to upholding the rights of those with special conditions.

According to his observations, UIN Jakarta has evolved into an institution with a holistic and coherent strategy for accommodating handicaps.

"We toured UIN Jakarta and observed its commendable approach to addressing the rights of individuals with disabilities," he reported.

This visit proved UIN Jakarta's dedication to facilitating access for those with impairments, including both student and faculty admissions.

"What we value most about UIN Jakarta is that this religious institution possesses a robust foundation for fostering inclusivity," he said.

The National Disability Commission particularly focused on the presence of disability service units on campus. He asserted that UIN Jakarta's initiatives to establish a framework for supporting students with impairments are well-organized.

"An institution akin to a disability service unit, known as the CSSN, already exists on campus. This institution exemplifies the effective implementation of best practices in addressing the needs of people with disabilities. The National Disability Commission will consistently advocate for and work on enhancing inclusion on campus," he explained.

Eka's colleague, Fatimah Asri Mutmainah, a KND leader in attendance, added that UIN Jakarta has shown genuine affirmative practices via the appointment of a handicapped lecturer who is now a government servant. She stressed the importance of acknowledging this accomplishment and using it as a model for other colleges.

UIN Jakarta campus facilitates affirmative action for individuals with impairments; for instance, this assistance enables a former student to attain an esteemed position as a lecturer. Thus, she underlined the need for the publication and emulation of such commendable practices by all universities in Indonesia.

The lecturer goes by Rayhan Naufaldi Hidayat, a man with impairments who has been appointed as a civil servant instructor at the Faculty of Sharia and Law. Notably, he was an alumnus of the Bachelor's Program (S1) at FSH UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta and graduated as the top student in his cohort.

Then, Rayhan pursued a master's degree at the Faculty of Law, University of Indonesia, with a GPA of 3.94. Upon graduation, he sought a position as a government servant, a lecturer, and successfully made it at the Faculty of Sharia and Law.

Rayhan recounted his experiences throughout his academic and professional journey to UIN Online News. Throughout his studies at UIN Jakarta, he experienced an inclusive and adaptable environment to maximize his potential.

"Essentially, we are all born equal, but the manner in which we realize our potential also refers to the variety itself. I have felt a significant degree of accommodation and adaptation offered here, both during my time as a student and in my roles as a lecturer. Here, we can consult whatever you need, and we will facilitate whatever you are capable of,” he told.

Deputy of the National Commission for Disabilities (KND) Deka Kurniawan fully acknowledged that UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta has established a robust foundation of inclusion and expressed a desire to further partnership with the institution.

"I do sense a strong ambience of inclusiveness; it has already been established here. In the future, we must further enhance it through the collaborative programs we will undertake," he closed.
