KMPLHK RANITA UIN Jakarta holds socialization on disaster mitigation

SC, UIN News OnlineKelompok Mahasiswa Pecinta Lingkungan Hidup dan Kemanusiaan (KMPLHK) Ranita UIN Jakarta conducts socialization on tsunami disaster mitigation on Saturday (06/22/2019) at  Paniis Vilage, Sumur District, Pandeglang, Banten.

After the socialization, members of Ranita UIN Jakarta, assisted by SMPN 4 Cigeulis students planted tree seedlings that aim to break the high waves of sea water as happened in the Sunda Strait at the end of December 2018.

Chairman of KMPLHK Ranita Bahrul Ulum to UIN News Online, Monday (06/24/2019) said that the socialization program is aimed to increase the knowledge of local residents. This socialization explains disaster risk and preparedness in the event of a tsunami.

Meanwhile, the chairman of Komunitas Aktivis Insan Peduli Konservasi Alam (KIPKA) Pandeglang, Ramli, said that the type of tree seedlings planted is from the type of butun tree or also known as Putat Laut or sea poison (Barringtonia asiatica).  The tree is a species of Barringtonia native to mangrove habitats on the tropical coasts and islands of the Indian Ocean and western Pacific Ocean.

“These trees have been reported to be able to help buffer against tsunami, cyclones, and other storms,” he said.

Ramli greatly appreciated the holding of the tree planting program. He hopes that the activities carried out by Ranita will continue and be expanded again. The same thing was expressed by Omo, Chairman of RT 02 Kampung Paniis.

“Hopefully the collaboration in an effort to encourage environmental conservation to prevent the reduced impact of the tsunami will continue to run,” he said. (usa)
