Kemenag Secretary General Calls for Stronger Global Positioning and Impact of UIN Jakarta

Jakarta, UIN News Online — The Leadership Work Meeting (Rakerpim) 2026 of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta, held at Grand Sahid Jaya Hotel, featured the Secretary General of the Ministry of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Kamaruddin Amin, as one of the keynote speakers on Friday (13/02/2026).

In his address, he emphasized the importance of transforming UIN Jakarta into a leading higher education institution that excels not only in academic quality but also in delivering tangible contributions to national development.

Kamaruddin stated that UIN Jakarta possesses strong historical and intellectual capital that should be leveraged for greater institutional advancement.

“I want UIN Jakarta to become one of Indonesia’s top-tier universities that contributes to the interests of the nation and the state,” he said.

He further stressed that the university should pursue a significant leap in institutional development to strengthen its national and international standing.

“It is time for UIN Jakarta to position itself as an institution with broad impact and contribution, becoming a leading university recognized both nationally and internationally,” he added.

Strengthening Graduate Competitiveness

Kamaruddin also highlighted the challenges faced by higher education graduates in today’s competitive labor market, noting that millions of alumni still struggle to define their post-graduation career paths.

He emphasized that university systems and academic processes must focus on strengthening student capacity rather than merely producing graduates.

“University processes must be oriented toward strengthening student capacity so that they are able to survive after graduation. Students must be equipped with values that enable them to succeed,” he stated.

Strong Intellectual Legacy of UIN Jakarta

In his remarks, he also underlined UIN Jakarta’s strong intellectual heritage, mentioning prominent national figures such as M. Quraish Shihab, Harun Nasution, and Azyumardi Azra as evidence of the university’s longstanding academic excellence.

“UIN Jakarta remains a top-tier university because it has produced great figures who are national and international references. This is a strong asset that must continue to be preserved and strengthened,” he concluded.
