Kazan Federal University-UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta Establish Cooperation
Rectorate Building, UIN News Online- UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta and Kazan Federal University agreed to establish closer cooperation in accelerating their respective academic programmes. The leadership of Kazan Federal University showed interest in developing Islamic economic and financial studies.
The cooperation agreement with Kazan Federal University was reached during the official visit of UIN Jakarta delegation led by Rector Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, Wednesday (4/9/2024). The visit was accompanied by the Rector's Special Staff Prof. Kusmana and Head of International Cooperation Service Centre Prof. Maila Dinia Husni Rahiem.
Meanwhile, the visit of Rector Asep Jahar was well received by the leaders of Kazan Federal University. The Rector of Kazan Federal University, Prof. Lenar Safin, welcomed the visit of Rector Asep Jahar and his entourage. Also welcoming were the Vice Rector for International Relations, Dr Timurkhan Alishev, and the Director of the Department of External Relations, Dr Olga Vershinina.
During the visit, the parties agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta and Kazan Federal University which became one of the main focuses of this visit. Following the MoU, Dr Timurkhan and Dr Olga will work closely with Prof. Maila Dinia Husni Rahiem to implement the agreement, particularly in the development of collaborative programmes.
During the meeting, the leadership of Kazan Federal University expressed strong interest in co-operation in the development of Islamic finance and Islamic studies. Rector Prof Lenar Safin said Kazan Federal University is trusted to develop the area of Islamic finance, which is increasingly in demand among academics and practitioners in Russia.
Meanwhile, in the university profile presentation, it was conveyed that Kazan Federal University is 220 years old with the number of students studying currently 52,000 students, including 12,000 international students from various countries. Currently, 48 students from Indonesia are studying at this university, although previously the number reached 90 students.
Kazan Federal University is also said to have strong ties with Indonesia, co-operating with five universities, including three Islamic universities. Last year, a delegation from Kazan Federal University also visited Indonesia, strengthening academic ties between the two countries.
Currently, Kazan Federal University plans to publish collective works of students from Indonesia and Russia as part of the ongoing collaboration. In addition, KFU offers Indonesian language teaching programmes, with 15 students taking part in the classes.
Kazan Federal University is one of three universities in Russia that teaches Indonesian. The activities of Indonesian students at KFU are coordinated by the Indonesian Student Association (PERMIRA), which actively organises various activities, in collaboration with KFU and other student communities.
Kazan Federal University also maintains a close relationship with the Russian Embassy in Indonesia and Russian House. In fact, Kazan Federal University hosted the Kazan Forum where Indonesia played an active role as a participant.
After the meeting, Professor Maila revealed that Kazan Federal University is one of the universities with a very good reputation in the world of international education. ‘The university is ranked 401 in the QS World University Rankings with major scientific contributions in various disciplines such as biology, computer science, and social science,’ she said.
Going forward, he continued, Kazan Federal University and UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta plan to further explore various academic collaborations, including the development of Islamic finance and Islamic studies.
