Jakarta Provincial Government Disburses Rp399 Billion in Educational Assistance, More Than 1,900 UIN Jakarta Students Benefit

Ciputat, UIN Online News — The Jakarta Provincial Government is projected to have disbursed Rp399 billion in educational assistance through the Jakarta Outstanding Student Card (Kartu Jakarta Mahasiswa Unggul/KJMU) program for 2026. The announcement was made during a scholarship handover ceremony held at the Harun Nasution Auditorium on Thursday (23/04/2026). Of the total allocation, more than 1,900 students from Jakarta studying at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta are among the beneficiaries.

The projected funding figure was presented by the Deputy Governor of Jakarta, H. Rano Karno, S.I.P. The event was also attended by Dr. Nahdiana, S.Pd., M.Pd., Head of the Jakarta Provincial Education Office; Beno Muhammad Ibnu, Special Staff to the Governor; and Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., Rector of UIN Jakarta.

In his remarks, Rano Karno reaffirmed that the KJMU program reflects the provincial government's commitment to ensuring equitable access to higher education for Jakarta residents. He emphasized that university students are expected not only to excel academically but also to demonstrate strong social responsibility.

"Jakarta needs a young generation that is not only intellectually capable but also possesses strong character and is prepared to respond to the challenges facing the city," he said.

He further explained that the Jakarta Provincial Government is preparing a new Governor Regulation to expand the KJMU scheme. One proposal currently under consideration is broadening the program's coverage to include additional categories of private universities, allowing more students to benefit from the scholarship.

Rano Karno also highlighted the growing demand for highly skilled professionals, particularly in the healthcare sector. He noted the provincial government's plan to build two new hospitals in Jakarta, an initiative that will require qualified human resources, including graduates from medical schools.

Echoing these remarks, UIN Jakarta Rector Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., expressed his appreciation for the provincial government's educational assistance program. According to him, the KJMU scholarship has made a significant contribution to supporting students at UIN Jakarta.

"We hope this program will continue to expand, particularly to support strategic fields such as science, information technology, and healthcare," he said.

Overall, the KJMU program serves tens of thousands of university students across various higher education institutions. The first phase of the 2026 program covered 16,979 students, while the second phase reached 16,920 students.

Despite ongoing adjustments to the regional budget totaling Rp3.4 trillion, the Jakarta Provincial Government affirmed that education remains one of its highest priorities and that its commitment to sustaining the KJMU program remains unchanged.

The impact of the scholarship has been felt directly by students. Aisyatul Ridha, a student from the Faculty of Adab and Humanities at UIN Jakarta, shared that the assistance has greatly eased her family's financial burden.

"The KJMU scholarship has been incredibly helpful for both my family and me, especially in covering tuition fees and allowing me to continue my education," she said.

The KJMU program is also open to prospective university students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds. Further information is available through the official website of the Jakarta Provincial Government.
