Iraqi Ambassador Attends International Seminar Held by UIN Jakarta to Discuss Character Education

Harun Nasution Diorama Auditorium, UIN News Online - Student Association of Education Management Study Program FITK UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta held ME-Fair 5.0 International Seminar, entitled "Transformation of Character Education Management: Realizing Excellent Generation Based on Sustainable Development Goals” in Diorama Room, ground floor of Harun Nasution Auditorium UIN Jakarta, on Thursday (5/12/2024). The seminar itself was attended by the Iraqi Ambassador to Indonesia, HE. Ali Taha.

The ME-Fair 5.0 International Seminar was opened by the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Tarbiyah and Teacher Training for Student Affairs, Cooperation and Alumni of FITK, Salamah Agung M.A, Ph.D. In her speech, she stated that the theme of the seminar is very relevant in this advancing era, where the role of character education is becoming increasingly important.

“Education is not only about embedding knowledge and skills, but also shaping values, ethics, and the ability to adapt to existing challenges while adhering to moral and religious principles,” said Vice Dean, who also teaches in the Chemistry Education Study Program.

Chief Executive of ME-Fair 5.0 International Seminar, M. Ilham Sahmaludin, explained that this activity presented a number of academicians and the Iraqi Ambassador to Indonesia, HE. Ali Taha. In his speech, Ilham explained the purpose of holding the International Seminar, “This seminar aims to create a superior generation and have the ability to become leaders and students who posses skills and achievements that are useful for society”.

Then in the Talk Show session which discussed education, the Iraqi Ambassador to Indonesia, HE. Ali Taha, revealed the potential for bilateral cooperation in the field of education. “We can expand cooperation with Iraq, especially Islamic-based education, because Iraq is an Islamic country. This also encorages character education by instilling Islamic values that can form a young generation with integrity, culture, and high morals through the Student Exchange program,” he explained.

Ali Taha also gave an overview of the current condition of Iraq. “Iraq is very safe. We are a civilized nation and a rich country from various aspects, especially trade. Iraq has established Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with many countries for the benefit of society and students,” he explained.

According to UIN News Online, the diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Iraq are currently very well established, marked by a number of strategic cooperation in various fields, especially education and culture.
