International Publications of UIN Jakarta Lecturers Highlights the Indonesian Islamic Conservatism

Ciputat, UIN News Online – A number of lecturers in UIN Jakarta faculty have succeeded in publishing books from their research in one of the world's largest publishers for the category of academic books, Routledge Taylor & Francis Group. The book, entitled 'Rising Islamic Conservatism in Indonesia: Islamic Groups and Identity Politics', highlights the tendency of Islamic conservatism in the country.

The book, which was published in mid-October, was launched in a webinar, and attended by a number of scholars-researchers from Southeast Asia and the world on Monday (11/23/2020). Among them are the Coordinator of the Indonesia Program S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Nanyang Technological University of Singapore, Associate Professor Leonard C Sebastian and Research Fellow of the Indonesia Program, S. Rajaratnam School of International Studies, Nanyang Technological University, Alexander Arifianto.

Several writers from the UIN Jakarta campus include Burhanuddin Muhtadi & Rizka Halida (FISIP) who wrote the article Muslim Identity and Deprivation: Socio-Psychological Sources of Support for Islamist Radical Groups in Indonesia. Furthermore, Dadi Darmadi (Ushuluddin Faculty) who wrote Islamic Orthodoxy at Regional Level in Indonesia. Finally, Andar Nubowo (FISIP) who wrote Indonesian Hybrid-Salafism: Wahdah Islamiyah's Rise, Ideology, and Utopia. Apart from Leonard C. Sebastian and Alexander R. Arifianto, this book was also edited by one of the lecturers of UIN Jakarta, Dr.Phil. Syafiq Hasyim, lecturer at FISIP UIN Jakarta. (usa/zm)
