HIMAHI FISIP holds webinar on the role of Indonesian diplomats
Rectorate, UIN News Online – International Relations Student Association (HIMAHI) of the Social and Political Sciences Faculty of UIN Jakarta holds webinar and book lauching event entitled “Diplomasi: Kiprah Diplomat Indonesia di Mancanegara” written by diplomats and former diplomats, including Darmansjah Djumala (Ambassador to Slovenia and Austria), Agus Sriyono (Ambassador to the Vatican for the 2016-2020 period), and Bagas Hapsoro (Ambassador to Sweden for the 2016-2020 period) on Thursday (04/08/2021).
Present in the event, Abdurrahman Mohammad Fachir (Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs for the 2014-2015 period), Nazaruddin Nasution (lecturer at FISIP UIN Jakarta and the Indonesian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Cambodia for the 2000-2003 period), as well as Darmansjah Djumala and Agus Sriyono as book authors. Also present in the event, Rector of UIN Jakarta Amany Lubis and Dean of FISIP UIN Jakarta Alimun Hanif as keynote speakers.
In general, the book explores the diplomats experiences while serving in their respective destination countries. They shared their experience from various perspectives, especially regarding Indonesia's overseas diplomatic missions.
Agus Sriyono said the book could become a medium for enriching the mindset for students, business people, and international relations observers.
Meanwhile, Darmansjah Djumala said that the idea of publishing the book was based on the writers' desire to share their experiences and thoughts to the future of Indonesia’s diplomacy.
“I hope this book can help students and lecturers to develop the knowledge of international relations, especially at the FISIP UIN Jakarta,” he said.
On the same occasion, AM Fachir said that Indonesia always prioritizes the benefit of the world rather than national interests. This can be seen from the holding of the Asian-African Conference (KAA) in Bandung on April 1955 which was attended by 29 country leaders in Asia and Africa.
“In fact, Indonesia maintain its position as one of the ten biggest contributors to the UN Peacekeeping mission,” said Fachir. (usa/ns)
