Held a Public Lecture, Rector Urges Academics to Take Advantage of DAAD Opportunities
Diorama Hall, UIN Online News - Institute for Research and Community Service (LP2M) UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta with the International Cooperation Service Center (PLKI) in collaboration, held a Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) public lecture with the theme, "Exploring Research Collaboration and Scholarship Opportunities in Germany: Establishing Personal and Institutional Connections" on Thursday, (03/14/2024) in the diorama room.
The public lecture was attended by the Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D, Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, Prof. Dr. Ahmad Tholabi, S.Ag., S.H., M.H. M.A, Vice Rector for Cooperation and Institutional Affairs, Din Wahid, M.A., Ph. D, Director of DAAD Jakarta, Dr. Guido Schnieders, several deans, lecturers and students who also attended as participants.
In his speech, the rector said that the public lecture was part of the internalization of UIN Jakarta campus. At DAAD there are various kinds of research activities carried out, both in the fields of science and Islamic studies. He also hoped that the professors, lecturers, and academics of UIN Jakarta can conduct research collaboration at DAAD.
"This is one of the important opportunities that must be done. In DAAD there are various fields, engineering, social, science, Islamic studies and so on, both for S2 and S3," he added.
DAAD is an organization of German higher education institutions and student associations that aims to enhance academic cooperation around the world, especially through the exchange of students, academics and scientists. In the public lecture, Guido gave a complete description of the programs available at DAAD.
Guido explained some of the landscape of German funding foundations, there are about 120 national universities that are strong in research, these universities are entitled to grant doctoral degrees, unite research and teaching, are strong in research, and these 120 universities reach the top positions in various international rankings, and have 16.8% international students.
"There are several excellent institutions that provide funding, for those who want to do research and take doctoral programs and also PhDs, including, Max Planck Institute, Leibniz Association, Fraunhofer Institute, Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft," he said.
Guido also added information about the DAAD re-invitation program. The program funds research and work projects at German state-recognized higher education institutions and non-university research institutes. The program is available to former DAAD research grant or scholarship holders, former East German scholarship holders who studied one year in Germany. Requirements include an online application form, CV, list of publications, research proposal, time schedule, confirmation, invitation from the German host institution. Funding includes a monthly stipend of 2,000 euros, travel allowance, and insurance. The duration of funding is 1-3 months.
In addition, he also disseminates information related to doctoral program research grants in Germany. The program is an individual or group doctoral project at a state-run university or non-university research institute recognized by Germany. This program can be followed by academics, young scientists from ASEAN countries, except Brunei Darussalam, who have completed a master's degree no more than six years from registration. Requirements that must be submitted include a letter of acceptance by the academic supervisor at the German university, a research proposal approved by the supervisor, and a research schedule. The funding facility provided is an allowance of 1,200 euros per month. The duration of funding is four years.
