Green Campus Program: UIN Jakarta Collaborates with UI GreenMetric to Form a Sustainable Campus in South Tangerang
Rectorate Building, UIN Online News — UI GreenMetric from Universitas Indonesia (UI) visited UIN Jakarta on Friday (August 29, 2025) to foster collaboration in creating environmentally friendly campuses. The partnership between UI GreenMetric and UIN Jakarta aims to expand the Go Green program across Indonesia and onto the international stage.
The event was attended by Vice Rector for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Ahmad Tholabi, S.Ag., S.H., M.H., M.A.; Vice Rector for General Administration Prof. Dr. Imam Subchi, M.A.; Vice Rector for Student Affairs Prof. Ali Munhanif, M.A., Ph.D.; Vice Rector for Cooperation Dr. Din Wahid, M.A., Ph.D.; and UI GreenMetric leadership, represented by Dr. Vishnu Juwono, S.E., along with his team.
Ahmad Tholabi emphasized the strong commitment to realizing this vision, highlighting the importance of the Green Campus initiative. He stressed that a truly green campus goes far beyond just having lush trees.
"I believe in the Green Campus program. Simply put, it involves providing sufficient green space for students while maintaining a balance with the natural surroundings. However, it still involves many other key indicators as outlined by GreenMetric," he stated.
UI GreenMetric also offers a range of services, including consultations, ranking assessments, tree rating systems, events, global outreach, and SDG reporting. Therefore, Dr. Vishnu Juwono expressed his hope for UIN Jakarta to become a pioneering example for other State Islamic Universities (UINs).
"I hope UIN Jakarta, being located in the capital city of South Tangerang, can set a pioneering example and encourage other campuses to participate. The most effective approach is through knowledge sharing, right?" he expected.
Dr. Juwono further underlined that the program is entirely free of charge, being inclusive and open to any parties interested in joining or collaborating within the GreenMetric initiative.
The leadership of UIN Jakarta warmly welcomed and supported this collaboration as part of its commitment to realizing the Green Campus vision.
UI GreenMetric is an annual ranking system developed by Universitas Indonesia to evaluate and promote universities’ commitment to green management worldwide. The assessment is based on three main pillars—environmental, economic, and social—through a set of indicators including infrastructure, energy, waste management, air quality, transportation, education, and research.
