Green Campus Efforts: UIN Jakarta Collaborates with @bulesampah

Rectorate, UIN News Online — UIN Jakarta hosted a shooting event for its Green Campus initiatives at the Rectorate Building on Wednesday, July 24, 2024. In this event, UIN Jakarta collaborated with Benedict Warmter, known for his active social media presence as @bulesampah.

The event was supported by the Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) Jakarta. The goal was to document the various green initiatives that UIN Jakarta has implemented and is currently working on in support of the Green Campus effort.

The event was attended by the Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., the Head of the Center for The Study of Religion, Environment, and Climate Change (CESREC), and other invited guests. Additionally, the event included a tour of UIN Jakarta, including a visit to the Faculty of Medicine.

In his remarks, Prof. Asep emphasized the importance of the Green Campus movement, highlighting several concrete efforts by UIN Jakarta, such as water conservation, electricity and energy savings, and waste reduction.

“Academic community must actively participate in maintaining and caring for the campus environment to set a good example for the wider community,” he stated.

Prof. Maila explained the importance of environmental preservation according to the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). He emphasized that the Prophet was an environmentalist who taught us to green our surroundings.

“The entire academic community of UIN Jakarta should implement the values taught by the Prophet in their daily lives to protect the environment. Hopefully, these values can be implemented on campus,” she noted.

Benedict Warmter appreciated the steps taken by UIN Jakarta to create a more environmentally friendly campus. He expressed hope that other Islamic State Universities (PTKIN) in Indonesia would follow UIN Jakarta's example in implementing environmentally friendly programs.

“Hopefully, this will increase awareness and concern among students about environmental issues and encourage them to contribute to the preservation of nature,” he concluded. (Muhammad Naufal Waliyyuddin/photo: Yudi, S.Sos.I)
