In the context of eradicating corruption, the Minister of Religious Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Nasaruddin Umar, who is known as one of the leaders who is decisive and consistent in applying anti-corruption principles within his ministry, conveyed six important ideas that emphasize his commitment to making corruption a common enemy and building a culture of integrity in every line of government.
These ideas were rehighlighted at the Hakordia 2024 festival which was held at Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University (UIN) Jakarta. The event was attended by the Governor of the National Resilience Institute (Lemhannas) RI, Dr. H. TB Ace Hasan Syadzily, M.Si., the Rector of UIN Jakarta, Prof. Asep Saepudin Jahar, M.A., Ph.D., the Vice Rectors, the Head of Bureau of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, as well as the academic community of UIN Jakarta.
Six Anti-Corruption Ideas of the Minister of Religious Affairs
TB Ace Hasan presented six anti-corruption ideas that are the foundation of efforts to eradicate corruption within the Ministry of Religious Affairs as conveyed by Nasaruddin Umar in his viral video.
First, the eradication of corruption must begin by emphasizing that religion is not just merely word but is an actual work. By this way, the importance of practicing religious values in daily life can reduce the risk of corruption.
Second, make corruption a common enemy by building awareness that corruption is a public enemy that must be fought together.
Third, starting from the Ministry of Religious Affairs by ensuring the eradication of corruption begins within the Ministry of Religious Affairs, including a reduction in the cost of official travel and non-essential meetings.
Fourth, do not take what is not right, educate the public not to take the rights of others for the sake of the blessing of life.
Fifth, build a principled and honest generation by optimizing the role of religion to form a generation with integrity and strong life principles.
Sixth, the importance of role model because what is needed by the community is a role model in action, not just talking without taking.
TB Ace Hasan: From Ideas to Real Movements
In a talk show session at the Hakordia 2024 festival, TB. Ace Hasan expressed his appreciation for the Minister of Religious Affairs' six ideas.
"The six ideas presented by Prof. Nasaruddin, I think, should no longer be just ideas, but must become a real movement that is implemented, especially within the Ministry of Religion, ” he said
TB Ace Hasan also reviewed the backstory of his past while studying at UIN Jakarta under the guidance of Nasaruddin Umar. "Prof. Nasaruddin during his time as Assistant Rector had a very humanist and persuasive approach in handling student movements on campus. Even when he became Minister of Religious Affairs, he remained consistent with the same approach. Without showing power as a minister, he gently and exemplarily conveyed the values of honesty and integrity, “ he recalled.
Presidential Directive: Integrity Starts with the Leader
In the same session, TB Ace Hasan emphasized that the Minister of Religious Affairs' ideas were in line with the direction of the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto. The President emphasized that corruption eradication must start with leaders who are in integrity. "The fish rots from the head, ” said TB Ace Hasan quoting President Prabowo's statement.
According to him, if a leader is able to demonstrate an anti-corruption ethos and maintain his integrity, then the institutions under him will follow suit, because without a clean government, even good policies will not run efficiently.
In conclusion, TB Ace Hasan expressed his great hope, “I hope that all attendees who are here, especially the UIN Jakarta institution which is sheltered by the Ministry of Religious Affairs, can take part in realizing the 6 ideas conveyed by our minister of religion,” he said.
