Government and Media: Stop Hoax Need Wise Attitude

Main Auditorium, UIN News online- Government is asking UIN Jakarta community members to help in minimizing the spread of massive news of hoax this could be done by acting wisely while accessing news on various social media. On the other hand, the spreading of hoaxes are stucked not only dominated by social media, the mainstream media is also thought to have stuck in these hoax news.

Thus are the concluding point by the seminar 'Hoax in the Mass Media and Social Media: The struggle between slander and Social Responsibility' in the Main Auditorium on Tuesday (07/03/2017). Seminar was attended by speakers , Director General of Information and Public Communication Ministry of Communication and Information Rosarita Niken Widyastuti, Press Council member Imam Wahyudi, and Experts of Information Technology and Social Media Nukman Luthfie.

According to Niken, the hoax are more and more massive lately. With the convincing look and editorial, it contains extremism and various forms of violence. While the source itself is not clear. "The spreading is quite massive," she said.

The government itself, obviously, has been trying hard to shut down sites that allegedly carry out the distribution of pornography, violence, and hatred. "Throughout 2016 no less than 800 thousand hate-mongers and pornography sites has been removed," Niken said.

On the other hand, the government through the Ministry of Communication launched a website aduancontent.kominfo.go.id. This site works by public reporting hoax sites which initiated by them on turn back hoax. "We cooperate with the some parties to report active hoax on this site," she said. (im)
