FST UIN Jakarta & Jurnal Kimia Valensi Host Writing Class Batch 3 to Enhance Writing Skills
Jakarta, UIN Online News – UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta's Chemistry Study Program, in collaboration with Jurnal Kimia Valensi, organized Writing Class Batch 3 on Thursday (July 10, 2025). The event focused on two main topics: book writing and scientific journal article writing and publication. The class was attended by participants with diverse backgrounds, including students, administrative staff, and researchers from various national universities.
Writing Class Batch 3 featured Prof. La Ode Sumarlin, Chief Editor of Jurnal Kimia Valensi, and Agus Rumus Liandi, a lecturer from UIN Jakarta's Chemistry Study Program, as main speakers. The class aimed not only to provide theoretical knowledge but also to equip participants with practical skills in writing books and scientific journal articles.
The first session, led by Agus Rumus Liandi, M.Si., explained that a scientific article is a written work structured with an academic approach and specific systematics, consisting of five main parts: Introduction (or background), Method, Result, Discussion, and Conclusion. These five points are then summarized into an abstract, which includes the background, objective, method, results, and conclusion, typically ranging from 100 to 200 words, or up to 500 words for research in a health context.
Agus emphasized the urgent need for a clear and logical structure when writing research in a health context. In the method section, writers are advised to include details such as data sources, purity, and concentration of chemical materials used.
“It is important for all researchers to note that there are elements that can strengthen our research, such as ensuring the source materials, purity, and concentration of materials, which can be included in the method section,” he stated.
During the second session, Prof. Dr. La Ode Sumarlin discussed writing and publishing books. Besides highlighting the systematics of book writing, Prof. La Ode also stressed the importance of early book design planning, such as cover, font selection, font size, and page count, to make a book appear professional and visually appealing.
At the end of the session, Prof. La Ode affirmed that beyond theory, systematics, tips, and methods discussed, one aspect is equally crucial. According to him, a good book or scientific journal is one that is written and completed.
“Don't forget, colleagues and students, a good piece of writing is one that is written and completed, not just imagined. Writing is not merely about presenting research results, but about how we convey ideas scientifically, systematically, and accountably,” he concluded.
Writing Class is a regular writing training program organized by the Faculty of Science and Technology, UIN Jakarta, in collaboration with Jurnal Kimia Valensi, a journal publisher under the guidance of UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta's Chemistry Study Program.
