FST Students Holds Counseling on Waste Utilization

Faculty of Science and Technology, UIN News Online –  Biology students of FST UIN Jakarta holds counseling on waste utilization entitled “Sampah-Berkah” at SDN Cempaka Putih, Jakarta, Friday, (3/17). This event was organized by Wahana Indonesia Prestasi and Al-Azhar University Indonesia.

The committee chairman, Aditya Pratama Putra, said this counseling is targeting the primary school teachers and their students to raise the awareness about the risks and benefits of wastes.

“This event is expected to provide education to students that we can recycle the wastes into useful items, such as waste from old cardboard that can be utilized into a tissue,” he said.

He also explained that the waste problem is now so problematic. The public awareness on waste management is very low. The majority of people see trash as a dirty, disgusting and useful object. “They do not realize that there are some types of waste that we can still recycle,” he explained.

 This full day activity gets positive response from teachers and students, Nania Alfriena Dewi for example, the Sixth grade student is very pleased in participating the activity because it adds a new knowledge, especially about the waste utilization.

“Sometimes we do not care about the waste that is around us, it turns that some kind of waste, cardboard in example, can be turned into handicrafts,” she said. (usa)
