FSH UIN Jakarta Strengthens Global Networks and Student Leadership Through Visit from International Union of Muslim Scouts
FSH Building, UIN Online News — The Faculty of Sharia and Law (FSH) at UIN Syarif Hidayatullah Jakarta welcomed a delegation from the International Union of Muslim Scouts (IUMS) as part of the international "Towards the Summit" program on Wednesday (January 21, 2026). The visit aimed to strengthen global academic networks while enhancing leadership capacity among Muslim youth through cross-cultural exchange and academic collaboration.
The delegation was received by Dean of the Faculty of Sharia and Law Prof. Dr. Muhammad Maksum, M.A., MDC., Vice Dean for Academic Affairs Prof. Dr. Mesraini, S.H., M.Ag., Vice Dean for General Administration Dr. Afwan Faizin, M.A., Vice Dean for Student Affairs, Alumni, and Partnerships Prof. Dr. Kamarusdiana, M.H., Head of the Center for Fatwa and Islamic Law Studies (PUSFAHIM) Prof. Dr. H. M. Asrorun Ni'am Sholeh, M.A., and Executive Secretary of PUSFAHIM Musa Wardi, who served as moderator.
The IUMS delegation comprised 13 representatives, including the organization's Secretary General, four leaders from higher education institutions in Saudi Arabia, and eight student delegates from University of Ha'il and Prince Sattam bin Abdulaziz University. Their visit provided an opportunity to foster dialogue on leadership development, international cooperation, and the future of higher education within the Muslim world.
In his welcoming remarks, Prof. Muhammad Maksum expressed appreciation for the visit, describing it as an important opportunity to introduce the Faculty of Sharia and Law and its academic programs to an international audience.
"We greatly appreciate the visit of the International Union of Muslim Scouts to the Faculty of Sharia and Law. This occasion provides an excellent opportunity to introduce our faculty and academic programs while strengthening international collaboration," he said.
The highlight of the program was an International Training Session and Workshop titled "University Excellence and Personal Capacity Building." The session featured Prof. Asrorun Ni'am Sholeh as the keynote speaker. During his presentation, he emphasized that academic excellence should be complemented by practical experience and continuous personal development.
"Field experience reminds us that the sources of knowledge are vast and extend far beyond what is written in books," he explained.
Prof. Ni'am, who also serves as Vice Chairman of the National Scout Movement (Kwartir Nasional Gerakan Pramuka), highlighted the important role of scouting in cultivating leadership, resilience, discipline, and character among young people. Drawing on his experiences in international academic programs, he encouraged students to broaden their perspectives through global engagement while remaining grounded in Islamic intellectual traditions.
Echoing this message, IUMS Secretary General Dr. Zuhair Husain Ghanim underscored the importance of building strong international networks among Muslim youth. According to him, effective collaboration across countries depends on meaningful relationships and shared commitments, as demonstrated by the success of IUMS programs organized in Indonesia through extensive scouting networks.
"Strong networking enables effective coordination and collaboration across nations. It is one of the key foundations for developing future Muslim leaders," he noted.
Founded in 1989 and headquartered in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, the International Union of Muslim Scouts (IUMS) brings together scouting organizations from Muslim-majority countries around the world. Through leadership training, international exchanges, and educational programs, the organization seeks to strengthen brotherhood and prepare young Muslim leaders equipped with both Islamic values and global perspectives.
The visit reflects FSH UIN Jakarta's ongoing commitment to expanding international partnerships while preparing students to become globally minded leaders capable of contributing to academic advancement and the broader Muslim community.
